Until Dawn not only lies to you but several characters can't die until extremely obvious plot critical points. Your choices have no real difference other than an extra line of dialogue maybe and half the cast lives until the end anyway. Oh and you can't save everyone because the twins and josh die/turn into wendigos no matter what and the mountain man dies no matter what

It is interesting to ponder how much true agency matters in a first playthrough of a game. If the game succeeds in creating the illusion of agency, such that if somebody told you the events could play out completely differently you would believe them, is there really anything wrong with the experience? Obviously, the experience is (presumably) broken in terms of replayability, but I don't know if I have a problem with a game lying to me about the bounds of the interactivity if it results in myself having a more enjoyable time.
