I'm surprised Nintendo ended up allowing MC on the Wii U. I always figured the reason it didn't happen previously was that they didn't want to compete with MC on their own system, as their own kid friendly franchises would be shadowed by MC.
Of course, the alternative is that they were just stupid stubborn people that think western games are worthless and getting the best selling game of all time on their platform is not a good idea.
