This is true. The lore is Bloodborne is so much more interesting, engaging and rewarding than the lore in the souls games. I really think that Bloodborne is the best of the bunch, and the engaging plot and incredible atmosphere are two of the main reasons.

Plus there's the whole bait and switch that helps out. In dark souls you know your goal from start to finish and there's nothing to get in your way.
Bloodborne is like yeah you're a hunter go hunt beasts. You get hints here and there, the odd celestial enemy tucked away in the corner that makes you feel like something is hiding just out of your vision. Then you jump down a lake and it's like FUCKER DID YOU THINK THIS WAS PLAY TIME? Shit gets real in a way that dark souls never could.

It's too bad that you never get out of being used by everyone in the game except for when Gehrman kills you and you can escape the city. Even if it's a sequel hook I find it unrewarding that the PC never wisens up to the whole Paleblood thing and in the worst case ends up as the doll's lapdog/alien. I feel the same way about Demon's Souls.
With Dark Souls 1 and 2, it just feels like a generic "you da chosen one, go save duh world" story, except more interesting.
I am also a sucker for atmosphere, so Demon's Souls / Bloodborne > Dark Souls & Dark Souls 2 in that aspect.
