I'm role playing as a 26 y/o nobody who is desperately trying to have fun with a game he knew wasn't going to be very good, but is too fucking stubborn to admit he was wrong and do something else.
He mostly watches anime instead of playing the game he bought or doing anything productive with his life. But hey, he figures everyone's seen Naruto, so all the hub-bub must be worth 600 episodes of his time.

My character 's military background was vague enough that I came up with a more in-depth backstory for him.
He came from a family with a long military heritage, and joined the Army at eighteen, quickly becoming a skilled soldier. This led to him being selected for a newly-formed special forces unit that operated at extremely high levels of secrecy. Eventually however, he was injured during the Resource Wars and was honorably discharged from the military. He went on to do various contract jobs around the world for various forces, and is actually home for a short period of time when the bombs fall. I'm also changing his appearance every ten levels.

Anyone else not played this game for a while? Haven't played in over a week. I always think about maybe booting it up again, but I don't. The dialogue and voiced protag alone are deterrents for me.
After playing New Vegas on hardcore, FO4 is so lame and boring in comparison. Kind of sucks.

The game really starts to earn value in the late game.
A much better main questline than Fallout 3 for sure and every faction is genuinely grey.
I'm siding with the Institute though because it's obviously the best choice.

I want to roleplay as a guy who exhausts all his energy trying to find his kid and wife's killer but eventually gives up after being convinced that it'll never happen so he let's them go and lives his life.
What's the best point in the main quest that will make it seem like finding any clues will never happen and it's all a fruitless effort while still playing it to a point where it makes it seem like i tried?

If you look closely, you'll see that my friend here has no pilot. That's because all vertibirds are sentient lifeforms that don't require piloting. The position of pilot is actually a lot like human resources -- it's where the military staffs women and other unemployable people that are required to be hired as per affirmative action laws.

I have no idea since this was my first Fallout, but they intentions seemed purposely dumbed down because they had to be against each other at some point in history and you had to make a choice. Like when you're with the BoS and just blast into Railroad's HQ (and vice versa) and kill everyone because reasons even though you have a common enemy and the means to stop them.
Also the Institute's intentions never became clear to me

It's hard to play different characters in FO4 because of the voiced protag and detailed backstory. That and it's impossible to be evil in this game. You can be a dick sometimes, but there's no being a slaver or destroying/fucking over entire communities.

No, that's a very BoS thing to do.
Fallout 3's BOS was a dumbed down version: goody two shoes who wanted everyone to have a good life.
Historically, the BOS is a well equipped military with very little care for collateral damage in order to get their ends.
In Fallout 4 especially they want to get rid of ghouls/synths.
It makes perfect sense why a group who thinks synths = people would be a tactical problem.
Institute intentions are pretty clear actually.

Blitz, Reaper and Blacksmith make the game a complete pushover. Sneaking is unnecessary. Power armor frames set your base strength to 11, making strength essentially a dump stat.

I just beat the main story with the Railroad. Felt like a fucking monster and afterwards, I abandoned the Railroad, did Nick's loyalty mission and parted with him, grew a beard out, added some facial scars and mud and am now totally depressed.

It probably won't be worth revisiting until the GECK releases and we get a few mods that flesh out the Minutemen. As it is, they're the only tolerable faction as far as writing goes, mostly because there's nothing to them. Seriously, though, they feel so unfinished.

Yeah, I really expected more out of the whole supply-line thing. As it is, you get a shitton of resources everywhere for practically nothing. It's frustratingly simple in just about every regard and the actual cool stuff, like how excess goods are shared and shit, isn't explained at all.
