Just got into the series recently

>perfecting air rally

Literally impossible
>>
Wubbadubbadub is that true?
>>
>>318777435
Apparently localizing these games is total nightmare due to translating to english, changing lyrics, and finding english voice actors.
>>
>>318777724
So all I have to do is buy a separate game and work around it. Thanks nintendo

>>318778082
So just don't. Just translate the text so I can red the instructions. Then release it digitally.
>>
>>318778082
isn't most of the game just stuff from the past games? They're already translated
>>
>>318778082
Or you could just be sane and keep the original shit. The game transcends language barriers anyway, while it's nice to have a translation, you could play literally every minigame with a line or two of text explaining it.
>>
>>318778278
>>318778362
It's comforting to see /v/ is as unrealistic as ever.
>>
>>318778301
it's old minigames but with new songs and stuff

the game also has a "story" now, forcing you to click through pages of dialogue between games.

I also haven't encountered any remixes yet
>>
>>318778489
Yeah I know I'm being unrealistic because Nintendo would never do something so nice. But a man can dream.
>>
>>318778489
Just treat the dialogue as gibberish. All that matters is the rhythm of the words anyway.

>I've been playing all of the rhythm heaven games in japanese first and didn't have to deal with any of the awful dubbing
>That feel when I'm gonna buy a SKY3DS cart to continue the tradition
>>
>>318778739
There are some minigames that are better in English.

For example Cheer Readers

actually the new songs don't have lyrics save for the remixes

the problem however is that said remixes probably have licensing issues

also the game is TEXT HEAVY unlike the older games
>>
>>318778648
>>318778652
You're more than welcome to have personal preferences, I can hardly stop you, but it's always stunning to me that so many people consider something as basic as dubbing to be completely unnecessary.

SO MUCH visibility and accessibility is sacrificed if a translation opts to only have a JP voice track. Why would a company ever want to do something that would cost them sales?
>>
>>318779129

This is what Americans actually believe.

>Apparently localizing these games is total nightmare due to translating to english, changing lyrics, and finding english voice actors.

LOL Rhythm Heaven is fucking child's play to translate compared to a game like VLR
>>
>>318779339
You're more than welcome to prove me wrong. Why would it be a standard otherwise? Dubbing obviously costs money, so to do it, the company must expect to make more back than they would have otherwise.

They'd expect this because it has a historical trend of occurring, right? Or do you have proof contradicting this?
>>
>>318778874
Maybe because that entire mini-game is in heavily accented Engrish in the JP version.

Every minigame is better in the original, and "lets go read a bunch of books" is a fucking awful line that's far more annoying than anything in the original.
>>
>>318779634
I appreciate your opinion, anon.
>>
>>318779634
>ok don't mind
>hey you can do

No, it's fucking awful.

Air Rally and See-Saw are also better in English
>>
>>318779616
They dub games because it's generally cheaper than working with the additional companies involved in licensing out VA work.

I know it might seem crazy, but it turns out that renting a tin can and getting some hobos to sit in a recording booth for 20 hours is actually way cheaper than asking for additional rights and having to go through all the red tape.

It's a standard because it's piss easy.
>>
>>318779481
Don't shoot the messenger here folks.

Also, you have to keep in mind that this is Nintendo we are talking about here, and Nintendo hates effort of any kind.

It only took 34 posts for someone to bring it up. Nice job
>>
>>318779851
The problem here is that you're reading Japanese words and thinking they're English.

Don't mind, for example, is basically a one-word stock phrase in Japanese.

See-saw is just annoying in English, and I literally can't see any difference in Air Rally.
>>
>>318779853
You sound incredibly impartial. That's really convenient, and all, but I don't see what that has to do with accessibility.

Like, Valkyria Chronicles. That was a pretty well received game here, and the PS3 version had dual audio (right?). Do you genuinely think it would have sold nearly as much if it was JP audio only?
>>
>>318780630
I've literally never met a person who says "there's no way I'd play this game without a dub".

Meanwhile, I've seen hundreds, if not thousands, crying every time a game comes out without dual audio.

As I don't associate with absolute mouth-breathers, I honestly couldn't tell you if there are actual people who find out they have to read in a game and decide not to buy it based on that.

>getting different VA's for different versions is cheaper than using the same dub from japan which they already have the fucking license to since the game was fucking RELEASED IN JAPAN BY THE SAME COMPANY THATS RELEASING IT IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES
>>
>>318777483
Well, the best part about it is no one else laughed at it.
>>
>>318780970
Localisation companies routinely drop the cost of licensing voice work during negotiations to save 5 dollars.

After all, they can make their own dub with hobos for 4 dollars, and people are forced to use it because they have worldwide rights for the game anyway.

Are you really so stupid as to think that developers have their own voice actors? In Japan, you hire people from actual voice acting companies.
>>
>>318780856
The anecdotal evidence is nice, but flawed: if the number of people skipping games without JP audio is as large as you seem to think it is, why does it still happen? These companies want money, so this choice in not including dual audio must not be costing them money. Ergo, the "hundreds, if not thousands" must not be an incredibly noteworthy amount of people.

Further, I'd like to say that your elitist attitude is far from necessary, but that's not important. What is important is you're completely misrepresenting the people you disagree with, so it's not particularly surprising that you don't consider them significant.

>>318780970
Well no, that's not entirely true. Voice acting in Japan has a lot of particular contract stuff that prevents it from being used outside of Japan.
>>
>>318778301

1/4 of the games are new.

I'm not that guy but I remember when they removed Jap audio from Atelier Ayesha and everyone cried so hard they said sorry and put it in the vita version. I bought a PSTV just for that Jap audio, the atelier dubs are beyond horrible

This doesn't really add much to the discussion I just felt like typing it
>>
>>318777759
NO, FUCK YOUR PROBLEMS IVE BEEN ON REMIX 10 FOR LIKE A MONTH
>>
>>318782065
I'm not that surprised. Atelier is a pretty niche series, so it's to be expected the more niche audience would make up a larger percent of their overall audience than more mainstream games.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with something being niche, but I can definitely understand a company wanting to make a series bigger than it is, and part of that is pushing voice acting that's in a language the audience actually speaks.
>>
>>318777346
Version 2 of this in English is a fucking nightmare to get even a Superb. Having the timing be based on a phrase whose rhythm probably got very slightly changed in translation is the worst. And get even one or two off (just slightly off not a complete miss) is enough to put you on an OK, meaning you need to actually pull of a perfect to be sure you get a superb. Love Rap 2 is actually harder than fucking Remix 10. Fucking HOW?

Badminton is way worse in English. The cat's voice is less crisp and much sloppier.
