It's a rather unique game which made me enjoy it alot.
Customizing your own hero, choosing what units you want to go. Exploring dungeons and enemies, finding rare artifacts.
It's a turn based strategy game with rpg elements. Who doesn't like that.

I don't mind imbalance, Conquest of Elysium and Dominions are some of my favorite games, but HoMM imbalance is just that a few factions are so good and a few others are just flat out shit without any reason. There's literally no reason Fortress shouldn't be able to get Mage Guilds beyond level 3, their units aren't so overwhelmingly good that they compensate for that. Also, there's no reason for why Inferno troops are so goddamn expensive when they are pretty fucking awful.

Know what's important to focus on in the early game: what units, building/build order are worth it etc. Some towns have absolutely worthless units that you can skip all together. Use spells for buff/debuff, units for damage.
