Why is it so slow?
Is that new gameplay? I don't remember seeing the chainsaw in the demo.
>>318730575
>gameplay
it's prerendered cinematics in first person dude...
Because it was made primarily for consoles.
It was dead the moment they showed the chainsaw was nothing but canned animations.
So immediately.
>Primary Mechanics of Doom are GOTTA GO FAST
>they focus only on the gore instead
It's a bad feeling.
Why do developers hate fast so much?
I just want to go fast, /v/
>>318730375
man im still legitimately confused as to how anyone could possibly be hype for this
>>318732789
casuals are intimated by fast paced games.
>>318730375
Because it's for casuals/consoletards who love contextual press x to win shit, and anything too challenging or fast turns them away. It really shouldn't be named Doom. The thing that made me fucking sick was how people were eating this dog shit up during E3. Hopefully Unreal will see a good player base when it's released.
>nothing more than Doom in name and because le epic gore
Bethesda strikes again
>>318732789
Can't go fast with pad controls. Consoles are where the money is.
Weapons triggering animations with every use is almost always retarded. I don't know why so many people seem to eat that shit up. It doesn't help that there seems to only be one animation per enemy type. Procedural animation becoming widely used would prevent this I imagine since the animation would be different each time.
Woah, it's Doom 3 in open environments, get hype!
>>318730375
>that fucking gameplay video reveal
>that boss fight at the end which was supposed to be amazing and epic looked boring as shit
>>318730375
>thinking Doom 3 was fast paced game
>thinking first two Doom games were masterpiece in terms of gameplay
>>318733116
When will developers finally make the right stick point you in the direction you press rather than make you slowly scroll?
Hell, it's not like both are impossible at the same time.
>>318733147
Most games can't even do normal animations right, and you want procedural ones? How the fuck would you even imagine that to work?
>>318732789
>Why do developers hate fast so much?
Because level design costs $$$ and having a slower paced game uses less levels.
>>318733443
Animations based on physics I guess. There aren't too many games to point to as examples however. Where your character is actually being simulated in whatever position they're in and then when the weapon hits them, depending on where it hits them, their bodies react realistically. Think GTAIV/V's Euphoria tech or Sui Generis/Exanima. Sui Generis is entirely procedural animations and it looks pretty strange but if devs were actually improving on it it would work well I imagine.
I thought I had some webms of Sui Generis/Exanima but I don't seem to.
>>318733337
ah but you see, it would require skill and precision
>>318732483
In the E3 demo you can see upon equipping the chainsaw it says in the corner "Super Chainsaw" which is possibly a weapon upgrade for the chainsaw that does instant kills based on a limited ammo system (notice the ammo count never going below six, probably an unlimited ammo cheat done for the demo). I think they made a mistake when they showed nothing but super chainsaw kills, and fucked up even more by showing two identical chainsaw death animations in a row
>>318730375
They've never played doom.
The multiplayer was just HALO with a marginally higher run speed. It did not feel like Doom at all.
>>318735446
That does look remarkably like Halo.
>>318732483
>canned animation
You can move the chainsaw.
>>318735446
>halo looking
>slow
>consoles
oh god
RIP doom
>>318735446
I opened this Webm before I saw the thread. Scrolling down fast, saw webm, opened it up. Assumed it was halo the second I watched it.
Boy was I disappointed that this is the fate of Doom.
I was reading up on idtech6 and apparently initially the idea was to have it be an engine that mixes ray tracing with traditional lighting. Also that it uses voxels. Is there any of that here or did Bethesda gut the engine/just design it as a generic engine after Carmack left?
Yep there it goes, fucking consoles ruin another great game series.
FUCK CONSOLES.
>>318736126
>Yep there it goes, fucking pirating or buying for 5 bucks after 10 years mustards ruin another great game series.
>FUCK MUSTARDS.
Your post didn't reflect reality so I edited it for ya. You're welcome.
There's no issue with fast paced games on consoles. My flatmate has the DOOM 360 release and it plays beautifully. This has looked shit from day 1. Nothing to do with consoles it's just what the dregs want.
>>318737016
>muh piracy
I hope you haven't bought a used game in your life.
>>318737016
>pirates caused this!
>they decided to dumb down the mechanics and slow down the gameplay to combat pirates!
You've got it all figured out
>>318737181
>muh piracy the same as used games
Yeah, I have. Have you bought any game for a full price?
>>318737429
>game is selling less on PC
>devs see this
>goes to the market that pays more for the games
Or anon, are you working for free?
>>318737648
>Yeah, I have
For shame, you robbed those poor game devs of money and you should go to jail desu senpai. Now excuse me as I buy this used ham here.
>Have you bought any game for a full price?
Yes. Most of the games I got recently were discounted on release day though.
>>318737648
>muh piracy the same as used games
You are aware that none of the money from a used copy goes back to the original dev, right?
>game is selling less on PC
>devs see this
>goes to the market that pays more for the games
Please stop this meme that piracy is bad enough to cripple anything, considering the PC as a platform has supported and is supporting generations of games.

>don't know how steam sales work
do your research first
I got an invite to the closed alpha this weekend. actually interested to see how it plays.
>>318738258
stream
I have one question, guys.
I am pirating and playing games on PC, but since I don't want to support PC gaming, I always buy console version instead.
Should I stop this?
>>318738396
No.
I'm doing the exact same shit.
>>318738396
Yes, idiot.
>>318738531
Really? I am glad I am not alone in that.
>>318738547
But why should I?
>>318738368
if i can get it set up i might. i've never streamed before and my machine is basically right at minimum recommended specs so i'm not sure how well it'll handle it. pretty sure if i try twitch it'll get pulled instantly because nda blah blah blah.
>>318738668
Better host your own stream site like some anon streamed fallout 4. But yeah if you can't stream it, it's fine.
>>318730375
because consoles
>>318738656
If you don't have interest to support PC gaming and it's franchises. It's fine though.
>>318738668
>not fearing the further legal issues and shit
Holy shit, you're the absolute madman! Is there a second round for the alpha soon?
>>318730375
canned animations
These are the PC specs for the alpha from the website.
Minimum Spec (720p)
64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8.1
Intel Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz or better / AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB VRAM) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB VRAM)
6GB HDD space
Steam account
High speed internet connection
*Please note that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, 680m and 860m models are below min spec for the DOOM Closed Alpha
Recommended Spec (1080p)
64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8.1
Intel Core i7 @ 3.4GHz or better / AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0GHz or better
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (3GB or more VRAM) / AMD Radeon R9 280 (3GB or more VRAM)
6GB HDD space
Steam account
High speed internet connection
If these are the requirements for PC and it's still expected to be able to run on consoles it's going to be a completely unoptimized piece of shit.
>>318739108
don't know. the beta is sometime next year.
>>318739262
>6GB HDD
I wonder...
>>318730375
What an ugly, stupid little game.
>>318739416
>the power of megatextures
also the alpha is just one map
>>318733116
You actually can. Doom plays alright on console, just git good with a stick.
>>318739262
>Minimum Spec (720p)
you fucking wat
>>318730375
>inb4 some chumps made a .wad better than that
>>318730375
>not a drop of blood on the chainsaw
>>318739529
I thought they used procedural generation technique.
>>318737016
calling someone an idiot and then doing the same shit yourself isn´t really smart either, broseph.
>>318739589
git gud with auto aim
>>318737648
>goes to the market that pays more for the games
This market only pays more because of the effort to keep the library small through incompatibility after generation change, exclusivity, and general branding and agressive psychological manipulation.
If you could replay all the games you ever owned for PS on your playstation you would also ask yourself if you really need this game that looks okayish for full price, or if you could replay some classic you are aching for and buy the game for less after that.
>>318739634
it's pretty fucking crazy that a computer capable of running a game like battlefield 4 at 1080p/60 with high settings is now the minimum requirements to run at 720p. battlefield 4 was running at 900p/30-40 frames on xbox one, and somehow these consoles are supposed to handle doom 4?
the devs clearly don't give a fuck about optimizing for pc anymore. that or this game is going to run at 480p/30fps on consoles.
>>318739973
it's bethesda what can you expect?
>>318739793
Well if aiming with a mouse were difficult there would be no assist. And it isn't exactly hard to play it with the assist off, depending on the game. It's much more difficult to aim with a stick than a mouse.
I still wouldn't want mice and keyboard on console because online should be an even playing field where everyone has the same hardware.
>>318739589
>You actually can
I'd really like to see you fail at quake 4 speed with a controller.
Consolefast is PCmedium speed at best.
>>318740051
Well you wouldn't play against KBM players with a controller, just against other stick users. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this. It's harder but that doesn't make it impossible.
Also you seem to assume that nobody who plays vidya on consoles plays PC shooters as well. The Elitism doesn't even make sense.
>>318740050
again do your research first before posting
>>318739793
Good thing auto-aim is a thing on consoles. I just stomped every-fucking-one on this beta. Like my best score was 31-0. Imagine the massacre if there wasn't an auto-aim.
>>318740149
I've played on PC as well, dipshit. It's much, much fucking easier to aim with a mouse; much better control, you can put your reticle exactly where you want it. With a stick it basically comes down to sending it flying across the correct horizontal path and pulling the trigger at the right time.
Stick should only ever play against stick, and mouse against mouse, it's an entirely different level of control.
>>318735446
I like how that dodge was supposed to show saome "High level play" but holy shit that would never have worked on PC.
So where are the current alpha leaks at?
The weapon switch slowdown is the worst. Kills the speed of the game
>>318732802
this is exactly when i stopped caring
id much rather just clunkily press the chainsaw into them and them explode into a million bits
or even better maybe FUCKING INNOVATE AND MAKE THE CHAINSAW JUST CHOP WHEREVER YOU POINT IT AT THE MODEL
but no
fuck everything made by AAA publishers
>>318737016
>hurr u arent supporting the indtusry so ur cancer

>>318735446
this is doom ? are you shitting me ?
>tfw even though shadow warrior 2 has coop and damage numbers it still looks way better and much faster than this piece of shit
>>318742034
It's fun actually. All the weapons have a nice feeling despite being a bit unbalanced.
The combo with the charge rail gun with the shotgun made you a polyvalent invicible fuck.
The netcode is fine, in the sense that it huts when it's supposed to hit. It's not as slow as it seems, but it's not fast either. But most of it is classical. They've even brought back telekills.
While some more modern stuff seems stupid, like the loadouts and the cinematic execution, it isn't THAT bad. Executions are far from being necessary, it gives you no true advantage, except maybe when you're in a 1-v-1 encounter, but you can be killed while performing it.
The opponent drops 15 armor when you kill him, whatever the way you do.
Tl;dr, it's fun. Far from being garbage like everyone is saying. It's nit something exceptionnal. It simply does well what it's supposed to do.
>>318742412
>unbalanced
They better fix that
>loadouts and cinematic execution
Why they put that? Loadouts is a bit fine, but cinematic execution?
dat epic and unique boss design. it looks like a shitframe character.
fuck doom
>>318742664
>cinematic execution
Press x to get awesome kill
>>318742664
Loadout is kinda ok for me. I got raped hard when I used to play Qlive because I was too scrubby to get weapons I like and shit.
Cinematic executions aren't that bad honestly, it's short and it saves your ass sometimes, and it's definitely optionnal. I could melee instead of executing sometimes, but I don't know if it was a glitch or if I pulled some dank shit instead.
But as I say, I really enjoyed the alpha to the point I barely played SFV's beta. I still don't know what it will look like during release and for the long term. But as it was, I liked it.
>>318741335
battlefront is actually a great deal of fun you miserable pathetic fucking lowlife.
>>318730375
I was bored of watching the 'blocking with forearms' animation the second time I saw it in so many seconds
imagine how fucking tedious its going to be to watch the exact same slow ass animation for the 10th, 50th or 100th time.
>>318730375
to pander to teenage casuals and normalfags who want ebin violence instead of good games
>>318743167
There aren't many "ebin violence" games these days. Not good ones either.
Wait for a fucking second. It's going to have loadouts in SP?
>>318730375
The chainsaw was by far the worst part of it desu. The rest seemed like an ok shooter you can play and have an ok time with if you manage to get over "MUH OLD FAST DOOM"
