It had the balance Melee needed, the physics Brawl needed, and was getting the variety sm4sh had
Truly my favorite smash, even if it was an unofficial mod. The only game to give my favorite characters a fair shake. And now... it's all gone.

I stopped playing PM around half a year ago after being burned out and to focus more on Street Fighter in anticipation of V. I was hoping to return to PM after the dust had settled to fuck around with Knuckles, Lyn, Isaac and all the other content they hyped us up with. It's truly sad to hear this news, PM was a great mod.

As active member of the tourney scene this only means that there will no longer be any nerfs and that the meta is really gonna have to develop and but there are still characters that are borderline underviable due to their design. Like Bowser and Ness. Bowser) a massive hurt box that moves at a rocks pace but must instead rely on raw punish game that consists of 50/50 mixups, chain throws, a spike throw, brutal fsmashes, panic up-b, and playing keep away. Then Ness) an agile little fucker who can kind of (but not really) force you to stay in your shield. But this is undermined by a complete and utter lack of range on most moves, namely, his aerials because those are the moves you are using most of the time. Things like this are why there are barely any true ness and bowser mains. As a matter of fact, people still just play Fox. No doubt, Fox is still the best character in the game. But not by a large margin. Namely because most of his matchups vs other high tiered are just straight even. But thats when the classic pm jank comes into play. You see high level foxes have to press a lot of buttons. Its basically part of the character. Then you have characters like wario who basically put in the same amount of work but notably less inputs and have more guaranteed combos into kill confirms. Fox works for his kill confirms while other characters just bthrow > bair and its done. But thats completely part of the character as well. And he damn well deserves it.

The problem was that 2 big holiday titles were delayed even though they were promised to release in 2016 last year and they had a poor Digital Event this E3.
Their NWC, Smash Bros Direct before that and the Treehouse streams were still the best things at E3 outside of XBO backwards compatability and Sony's TLG, Shenmue 3 (lol @ holding it hostage via Kickstarter before helping fund it), and FFVII (also available on other platforms).
Also, that shoddy Metroid throw in alongside pushing Amiibo hard rather than core games left something to be desired.
Lackluster Holiay 2015, hope they'll pick it up next year.

Alright, what really happened?
PM died in order for Nintendo to release their own version of the mod on the eshop. It will be announced after the broadcast this month. Nintendo also plans to make tools for modding smash 4, uploading and sharing through miiverse and some kind of NX compatibility. i assume they hope smash will live forever through fans building mods.
