Speaking of the Share button, I hope that's a feature that sticks around. It's awesome having a dedicated button to taking screenshots and video. It's innovative in it's practicality. Also it's not like Select ever did anything for anybody. I think changing it to an Options button is better representative of what people actually used the "start" button for.

I disagree, if you mapped the share button to the home button a great deal of the functionality the share button provides would be lost. When the share button is set to Easy Screenshot mode aka the best mode it works like this

One tap takes a screenshot
Double tap begins and ends the recording of video
and holding it brings up the share menu proper.

I think that would be hard to emulate using the home button as you could easily double tap too slow and it brings you to the home menu instead of taking a screenshot. And I don't even know how they'd handle video recording. Triple tapping? Sounds like shit, imo.

I still don't know what the ever loving fuck they were thinking with that controller. It wasn't until I was avid internet user that I learned how they actually intended for you to hold that thing. I was doing it wrong for my entire childhood and now that I know the right way my hands are too big and my knuckles rub against each other.

>Every manual literally showed you how to hold the controller

What the fuck were you doing then? Shoving the middle part up your ass and letting your buttcheeks do the work?
>>
>>318525107
Its because they weren't confident whether 3D controls would be truly picked up, so they prioritized it with the D-pad being on the left so you can hold it like a SNES controller, and the analog stick being out of harms way in the center.
>>
>>318524236
Actually, the norm is to destroy these things. The few things we know of come from electronics shows, magazine photos, and people who steal these things away from death.

Steam controller falls into 4 groups:
1. The retards using the defaults, which is terrible
2. The people using community settings
3. The people that alter community settings because they are flawed or can be improved
4. People that masturbate over the gyro

Then again, looking over the software upgrades for the current beta, there is insane improvements.

kek, it does look super fucking shite
>>
>>318525107
How could there be any other way to hold the thing? It doesn't take a whole lot of trial and error to see that 3 handles and all the buttons on the right means your right hand will always be on the right, and therefore your left hand will either be in the middle for analogue stick games or the left for dpad games.

The Pluto was actually a Sega Genesis with integrated 32X hardware, a CD drive, and a modem. It was similar to the proposed Neptune console except that it would have also been able to play Sega CD and 32XCD discs, as well as the modem which was never a particularly utilized feature on the Genesis.

Sega was really hellbent on the idea of folding the Genesis into the next generation of consoles, but the thing would have been a huge mess to program for, and way too confusing for customers compared to just releasing a new console with a brand new set of specs.

The most likely theory is that Sega of Japan saw how popular the Genesis was in the West, and thought that the best option for the American and European branches would be to just upgrade the Genesis into a 5th generation machine. That turned out to be a terrible idea and caused a lot of fuckups in communication between Japan and America, which ultimately resulted in a turd-tastic launch of the 32X and an extremely rushed launch of the Saturn in the USA.
>>
>>318523224
Holy shit, they actually fit a PC inside of that monstrosity? It looks like something a modder would put together.

Honestly, I don't think their intention was ever to sell the machine in that form factor. No-one could have ever fit it under their TV. More likely it was a proof of concept to get the attention of potential developers.

The customization is great, but unfortunately the market Valve needs to reach with it needs something that will work well right out of the box. The whole idea of Steam Machines and the Steam Controller was to bring PC games to console gamers, and right now neither Steam OS or the Steam Controller are going to have any appeal them. It requires too much setup and tweaking, and it's going to frustrate a lot of people-- especially the store, since the store lists streaming-ready games as "Steam Machine compatible," which is very misleading.

>why couldn't it be like that? 3D Pad was the GOAT controller. Only thing it was missing was a second analog stick.

Because it is fucking HUGE. Like, xbox huge. The only reason people didn't joke about it, is because no one in the US bought a Saturn, and even less people bought the analog pad for it (which was compatible with like five games total).

The patents for the Saturn 3d pad already includes a lot of extensions you can put on the controller, by the way (the controller cable could be detached). One of them was a motion sensor like the one the Wii had - it was rumoured that Nights 2 was meant to use one, either on Saturn or Dreamcast.

Steam Link actually works great and does exactly what it's supposed to. My brother bought one to put in his bedroom and it does its job well. Ironically, he mainly bought it because he wanted to stream movies and shows that he downloaded on his PC, which it is a fine device for, but as a gaming device it works great and it only costs $50.

Compare that to the Alienware Alpha, which gets only moderate performance on native games and costs $450. If you have a good PC there's really no reason to buy the Alienware box when the Steam Link already has everything you would want.
