He is at max level. (You also do minimum damage until level 10, so there is none of that "one more level makes the boss stupid easy" business in this fight.)

My sister was stuck on that for a long time. Also later on there was a boss that had things flying circles around him. My sister couldn't beat him so she asked me to do it. Took me good 30 minutes to make it.

I've played the Master System version of Ys 1. I couldn't even make it to the final boss. One of the Darm tower sub bosses was just rape mode. I had everything, knew what I was doing, and had beaten several other versions of Ys 1. It's the only Ys I've ever quit on.

Hello. I'm replaying Naphistim on Nightmare and I'm getting destroyed by the plant miniboss in windseeker heights for some reason. Is there some strategy to the fight I'm missing ? Like he seems to attack completely randomly, and two shots me. I can deal with him for a bit by using plunging attacks but fatally he'll attack two times in a row at some point and I'll get hit. Am I supposed to just grind until his attacks deal low damage ?

I had more trouble with multiple bosses in Oath. Gildias is shit because it's too difficult to see what's going on half of the time and there's so much shit on the screen during the phase where he tries to pick you up in his mouth that trying to avoid it is a crapshoot, Dularn 2 is just a terrible fight in general with the worst final phase ever, and Galbalan trolled me with RNG nonstop.

Getting near to hit him puts you at risk, though.
Even though I love ridiculously hard challenges, I feel the difficulty modes in the modern Ys games are kinda wacky. I don't see how to get more consistent at some of the required dodges. And sometimes the safest strategy is just so dumb and inelegant, and not what they originally designed. I'm fine with normal.

I dont know, the UI wasn't exactly like that so it might have been different version. Either way I just jumped without having played it before so maybe thats why it was hard for me. It was hard for her too though, and she had easy time for rest of the game so I don't know.
Vaguillion is easy, just take it nice and slow one hit at a time circling the room and paying attention to the bats to see when he will transforms.
Dark Fact and the twin heads are the real struggle though

And of course the fag teleports across the room once you get close, but if you try to fake him out he just stays near where he's at until you get close

Nightmare. Heads and Darkfact are like damage races stacked against your odds. For vaguillion as long as you don't run away too far from the bats so they don't spread he is really trivial.
I'm not even trolling I beat him in my second try yet took more hours to beat the last two bosses of the game than I did with the rest of the game.

The last boss felt like a true lottery for me
I tried for hours and failed. I tried watching youtube videos and copying the patterns of where to hit him but it is too easy to fuck up one tile which has knockon effects. I even tried out of curiosity slowing the game down to half speed which hilariously caused meteors to fall at twice the rate.
Then one day I just fired up the game, tried once and beat him. I don't know what happened or how I won and I didn't improve or learn anything.
