I still have yet to see evidence that Yooka-Laylee and Hat in Time have any kind of thought put in their design beyond "It's a 3D platform game so it's good like you remember!"
Rare were the first dev studio I fell in love with back on the N64. They were the only real competition to Nintendo in game quality on the platform and delivered solid title after title
What happened to them was that they spent a solid decade working every day with no vacations and basically retired rich. What you see of Rare today is a empty husk of its former self.
