His character progression was neat, but I don't think a trial and error boss fight is worth "best of the year" at all. I honestly enjoyed Undying's much more. Sure he had a lot of gimmicks, but say what you will, the progression towards them is really out of nowhere. Even if it does fit the theme of someone who wants to stop the player at all costs, and is built to take advantage of a trial and error playstyle, it just feels cheap, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's like people who call Asriel, a boss where dying has next to no consequence other than "feels", a great boss.
I know a lot of people will say "but that's the point of the fight", and that's fair enough, but the best boss fight of the year should win it's award because of the boss fight itself, not what it represents. For me, at least. I think Bloodborne's Ludwig, the Holy Blade is much better.Then again, this is bait, so what do I know, right.

Flowey's bossfight was ridiculously easy and scripted so that you could never lose, even when you die. It's only the illusion that it's hard or challenging because it's very subtle in the background to work in the player's favor. It was satisfying and wasn't remotely bad from a narrative perspective, but it's hardly a true final boss. Same goes for Asriel.
At least Sans was an actual final boss that provided challenge whilst still being fun.
