Ice Climbers are one of those characters who have reached a point where they're more associated with Smash then their origin, like Roy, Falcon and Game & Watch.
They also offer a neat play style that no other character has, so it's a shame to lose them.

Sakurai made a bad decision.
The 3DS version as a whole gimped the game. Imagine if they only worked on one version. We'd have more stages on just one game, probably at least a couple characters too, we wouldn't have to remove things like Dedede's Waddle Dee attack for the sake of framerate, etc.

I think the reason everyone bought the 3DS version was just to find out the full roster and confirm tiers right away on streams, people even imported japanese 3DSs to stream it
