This weapon has easily become my favorite weapon in any build I use. Int, Faith, or Physical. It's really fucking good. It's also good for any build because the split damage is not much lower than a physical one unless you plan to use a Leo ring.
DeS veteran here, cheesed with the Zwei and Soul Arrow til the bridge dragon, only died twice, plan to continue

I went Zweihander + Elite Knight's set -> full Havel's and Taurus Demon's Big Fuck-off Stone Axe my first playthrough. Do you have the right to make fun of me for that? Absolutely. Did I have fun wrecking everyone's shit with oversized weapons, breaking their poise left and right as I shrugged off their attacks like they were nothing? Yes I did!

except the difference was that you had to EARN those weapons at the start.
if you started the game and go under the bridge the first message you will see is "hit the tail" and BAM, you instantly get the sword, and all you had to deal with is 3 low level guys.
the gravelord sword you get after running thru the maze that was the catacombs (and remember this is your first time playing) and than beating pinwheel, THAN going thru ALL of TotG and killing Nito, and all you have to do is go thru a bunch of high level monsters that can 1-2 shot you any time
the drake sword isn't even good
you can upgrade your weapons pretty soon after you find it and a +5 claymore or zweihander will out damage it

You can switch with a single button at any time. They have different applications and you generally use them both.
You should probably just play it and learn the systems before you ask questions.
Or just don't ask any questions because it's more fun that way. Press Select on the menu to get detail text on stats and stuff.

That's not true. You have to join Nito's covenant to get his weapon. The way to access it is really well-hidden.
Did the sword really make that large of a difference at the beginning anyway? All the enemies during the first quarter of the game are fragile as hell.
