Did anything go right?

No

Well, they got sales.

Apparently their big combat renovation is next patch so maybe it'll actually be fun to play then, but I'm not holding my breath.
>>
>>318279140
their sixth* big combat renovation.

Anyone with a modicum of pattern recognition should know not to get excited.
>>
water/sand physics maybe?

i tried to think about things it did better than terraria and that's the only one i could think of.
>>
>>318279041
I still have no idea how they dropped the ball so hard on this (and kept dropping it.) Also buying office space and relocating everyone back when they did that probably wasn't the smartest move either.

It just goes to show you how far concept art and mock-up screenshots can take you, but if you're not careful you'll pay for it dearly.
>>
I actually just turned it on.

I'm that bored, but I'm having a bit of fun. Trying to get all the teleporter dungeons.. don't know why, but that's that.

Why?

Their sales figures. They obviously don't give a fuck about the game and just want to cash out now. They want to push out a shitty "finished" v1.0 so they can say it's done and have a big sale or something to squeeze the last few pennies out of it before abandoning it.

It made me feel better about myself.

It was a complete shill to fund Chucklefish, the publishing company, versus funding Starbound, the game.

Overpromised, underdelivered in every sense of the words. They never gave final figures for how much money they made, or where it was actually allocated to, but since they did an in-house kickstarter style funding, we can only guess.

I personally spoke with just about everyone on their dev team in one way or another at some point. I completely dropped this shit the moment I realized it was just enough of a game to make money on and move onto the next way to get money (already announced some pirate game, and they continue to make money publishing).

Their employees are forced to sign absurd contracts that basically screw them out of any real money for a long time.

They struck when the iron was hot (Terraria was in a major lull at the time) and cashed in. Something around 88k peak players near the launch but somewhere around only 3k today.

Waste of money, time, and effort. I hope none of you blew money on it or are considering doing so.

because i got banned for giving criticism about their game, apparently for "trolling".
that really upset me because i thought these guys were really potent so i posted inappropriate content across their forums to make myself feel better like the insecure guy i am

Aren't most things going right for Starbound? Sure, development has taken a long time but hey fuckface, that's what ALPHA means. I didn't expect it to be "early access = nearly done". Every major patch they've provided new systems and it seems to be shaping up into something pretty enjoyable, likely one of the best and most in depth of the genre.
>>
I check their page every now and then but it seems like this game is in development limbo or something. They never get anything done and their naming for "nightly" or unstable patches piss me off. Just name it what it is and stop giving it hipster names. Fuck sake.
By the time they'll release the full game we will probably be all playing terraria 3.
>>
>>318280652
I got 144 hours of playtime out of it, I wouldn't consider that blowing money, since I've spent multiple times what I paid for Starbound on things I've never even used.
>>
>>318279041
It was pretty fun to fuck with roleplay servers with a friend
>>
Has anyone tried Edge of Space? How is it? I'm playing with the idea to buy it for me and my lads.

It wasn't the next Terraria I was hoping it to be, but I have gotten a decent amount of hours from it. And with all the overhauls and updates all the time it's like playing several different games, even if they're kind of shit. I just hope 1.0 is decent.
>>
>>318279041
Well it was comfy

Atleast it had that going for it
>>
>>318279041
Yeah they jewed you out of your money without even having to complete the game and you aren't even entitled to a finished game in the near future so they have it easy

Wires.
Terraria's wires feel antiquated and don't come with logic gates for advanced contraptions.
>>
>>318279041
I decided to pick it up again after the last major patch and the game is much better now, it still has a long way to go.
>>
>>318279041

They had an idea people wanted. They just didn't have the knowledge and talent to actually deliver. For how many times they have redone the basic systems, it's clear they had no REAL focus to begin with - just this vague idea for a space game.

This is the one game I have ever removed from my wishlist, because I don't want to be responsible for the devs getting any more money, even if it isn't my own. They incompetence and "what is a "finished" game anyway?" bullshit just pisses me off too much.
>>
>>318281550
The wiring system is better. Too bad there's absolutely nothing worth wiring.

It is fucking god awful garbage. The game is grindy as fuck and boring. The devs made anyone who bought the early access game BUY THE GAME AGAIN to upgrade to "standard" edition. That should tell you enough.
>>
>>318281730
This. Just having a great idea doesn't mean you can make a great game, you need talent to back it up. They post more pictures of them fucking around their hipster office than them pushing out updates.

tweedvsworld made some sorta funny videos as a result of their fuck ups so I'd say that went right
>>
>>318281550
>>318281867
Not to mention the next update if it ever comes along will give Terraria better wiring options among other things, such as Conveyor Belts.
>>
>>318281730
>"what is a "finished" game anyway?"

That was the exact moment I dropped kicked the game and the game studio down a dark hole for all time. Chucklefish are supremely fucking lucky that most of its userbase are uneducated preeteens who are completely oblivious to how hard they got screwed over. So much fucking dishonesty, and then to attempt to wax philosophical about your screwups to justify them like some narcissist? Fuck that shit.
