I know that feel sis/bro! except my potato can't run 1/5 of the games. I launch it and then it crashes:/. Good thing that steam has refunds now :D
It still amazes me to this day that I can play all these games from all these consoles on my PC so easily.

It was magnificent to realize that from now on I'm able to travel back and forth across gaming eras. Considered games already were my major hobby it was equal to discovering a working time machine.
Also I had no literal face when.
2007.
Played GB/GBA pokemon games.
Blew my fucking mind, first thing I tried to emulate was dragon quest VIII unfortunately ps2 emulation was terrible, still I had great fun with dome of the Pokémon ROM hacks.

It's not like they're overly complicated. If you're not technologically challenged, it should take like two minutes to determine the right config for a game (if it exists).

Also, I'm assuming aspect correction just changes the aspect ratio to 4:3, which is true to the console output.

I didn't realize what it was until I was 18, but the earliest I remember experiencing emulation was with nesticle. I used to play TLoZ on my cousin's computer since he was the only one in the family who had one back then.
When I got my first laptop in 2007, I learned about emulation when I got the desire to play OoT and wondered if there was a way to play it on my laptop. After some research, I was addicted.
Now I'm in the middle of getting an H97 mobo for my i7 so I can emulate GCN and Wii games again.

i was at my cousins and i used to play smash 64 when i went to his house and learned how to get them my self years later.
My first emulated game was Pokemon Red. I brought it home on a floppy disk from an internet cafe. I don't even remember what the emulator was called.
>>318277617
Thanks.
I normally don't give a crap about accuracy, but I'm a moonreader and the "99% compatible with all comercial releases" feature seems it would suit my ntsc-j rom emulation necessities.
>>318269562
Tfw I have yet to discover it
Always preferred the original. Emulation either had problems or encouraged me to cheese the game.
How about I spend 3 hours grinding...or mash the fast forward button and get that shit done! About to die? Savestate!
I'm not against emulation, it's the best alternative simply put for high schoolers or those who can't or don't want to buy a console. There are only a few rare cases where emulation (even then, took time=dolphin) had any benefit to just playing the original.
Life is too short
to finish all these games
Why cant I hold all these ROMS?????

Or, get this, you could not be retarded and not use features you don't want to use. And if you seriously think upscaled graphics and free games for almost every platform PS2 and older isn't a benefit, you're even more fucking retarded.
I've been on emulation or bootleg from the very beginning as a SEAfag.

I worked with a kid who had a really rough home life and worked a low paying job. He was telling me about how his main passtime was to get off work and go home and play one of the few games he had but he was going to have to sell his console soon. So I explained game emulation to him and told him about coolrom and emuparadise. A few days later he thanked me for telling him about it and that he had been playing tons of different games on his toaster. Felt pretty good.

As someone who is new to emulation, how come ROMs don't exist for current games being released now? Pardon my ignorance
>>318279498
They exist, they're just useless so no point in distributing them.
>>318279498
We don't have emulators for current gen systems and we can't play pirated games on real systems either
>>318279498
ROM files are just memory dumps of the cartridge's ROM. Today's equivalent would be disk image files (.iso)
>>318279498
No one's gotten past the console's security, I think there was a PS4 web browser exploit but not sure if anything became of that.

PS3 emulation probably won't happen for decades. The set up of that console is a mess.
Even PS2 emulation is only recently starting to hit its stride, and that's not as complex.
360 emulation would be pretty sweet though. I fully expect that to be a reality long before PS3 emulation
