it's been dumbed down, like your footsteps are silent when crouched no matter what, there's now loading areas in maps.
of course, you can mod it to fix these problems, where it becomes a pretty solid game.

The Dark Mod is pretty good. Its a standalone mod/game on the Doom 3 engine.
