Will it make Final Fantasy great again?
>>
If the demo is any indication, no.

>>318234339
I mean XII, XIII, and XIV didn't
>>
>>318234339
Nah, it'll be the final nail in the coffin

Can I ask why? It was pretty groovy.

Getting Spirits Within vibes from it.

Worry.
>>
>Guts is off the boat

>>
>>318234339
Nope. It's going to be a great game, mechanically speaking, but it lacks that "it" factor that older FF games had.
>>
>>318234339
nope, they are trying too hard to impress people with graphic and shits. gameplay is super meh

The demo was okay. The gameplay needs a lot of polishing though, seriously, the gameplay felt very repetitive and clunky after a while.

The world felt dull after a while, too. For a game that is going to be as exploration-centric as XV, the overworld really needs some improvement.

On the other hand, the game was pretty comfy, and I really enjoyed the demo, but once again, it needs a lot of polishing and improvement.
>>
>>318234339
The only thing that can save FF is the VII remake if anyone still cares about it years from now when it's actually released
>>
>>318234942
Gameplay is pretty drastically changed. where you can manually switch to what weapon you want now. And I fully agree the demo was max comfy. It had a few cool things to do but other than that it needed some more to it. Seeing as it was a demo I can forgive it, since they probably rushed that shit out to prove they had fuckin something.
>>
>>318234339

Final Fantasy needed to be great to start with to be made great again.

The best games in the FF series are merely decent.
>>
>>318234734

Hate to say it, but FFXV will sell 3 million copies just because of hype and marketing. The real question is, will it sell more and how many copies does it need to sell to make a profit. If SquareEnix has spent 150 million on development costs over 10 years and it only makes back 100 million on 3 million in sales, then it failed.
>>
Everything we've seen suggests schizophrenic development that will result in a total mess of a game. I also expect it will play like shit, the story will the usual childish (and yet simultaneously incredibly pretentious) tripe you expect from Square Enix, and then you have more subjective stuff like the awful cast designs.

It will be pretty though, the music will be good, and there will be some good porn buried under all the gay shit.
>>
>>318234339
Didn't Nomura try to make XV a game with musical numbers. I think they should do that with the next FF or a spin-off as well as being a 2D/3D mix like Xenogears with hand-drawn/CGI mix cutscenes probably done by Don Bluth. That would be a 90's animated film as a video game.
>>
>>318234339

Honestly, this game looks generic as fuck. The combat looks boring and no skill involved at all. And the game has been in development hell earlier which means that it will probably suck hard when it is finally released.

No the combat is pure garbage. I would rather play turn based than the cluster fuck combat they have gone with. FF7 remake is going to be just as shit combat too. No one plays these games for the gameplay. There just interactive storys for emo faggots and women now.
>>
I honestly hope FFXV fails hard. Then maybe SquareEnix will finally realize they should focus on things besides endless FF.
>>
I've grown particularly weary of open world games. I think if the game had some sort of middle ground between open and linear it would work better as a compelling story with exciting gameplay.

>>
>>318234339
XIII was fantastically unremarkable so it'll at least be a major improvement without a doubt
>>
>>318234339
>generic openworld hack and slash snore fest with ebin cinematics

FF13 was the point where final fantasy became beyond saving
>>
>>318239491

The best open world games actually have very well designed enemy and quest placement. What makes bad open world games so bad is just having a big open world with no effort put into the flow.

Making a good open world is one of the hardest things in gaming. its basically about creating just the right amount of content and guiding the player to it, while tricking the player into thinking he found it. Most developers can't do this. They either just have a big world and make you search around aimlessly or have a big open world, but use indicators telling you exactly where to go.

FFXV is going to probably have a combination of both faults. Indicators telling you exactly where to go for the story, then mindless open areas to explore when you want to find side quests.

You know what I've noticed? In the couple of FFXV threads we've had this week FFXV-kun hasn't really reared his autistic head. Is he dead or has he toned it down?

I don't know. Compare it with past FFs and ask yourself the same question.
>>
>>318241394

You can argue that Science Fiction is a type of fantasy. And Final Fantasy has has science fiction elements ever since the first game.

The bigger problem is that FF as a series has gone overboard on story and cinematics. I mean, it was always the focus of the series. But since FFVII, its been the only focus. Gameplay and character development don't even exist anymore.

>>318234339
Why do we need FF to be good anymore? There are plenty of other great JRPGs.
>>
>>318242596

We don't. Only FF fans who don't want to give up the series care anymore. And they are a very small minority of people who usually buy the main releases.
>>
>>318240454
The game is not that bad .
its not a good FF but its not a bad game.
we are not getting into story etc
>>
>>318241807
In the NES era, the story was icing to give context to the gameplay. "Why am I venturing into this dungeon and fighting monsters? Oh, there's a big monster who's doing bad stuff at the bottom and I'm the hero. Got it."

In the SNES era, the story was there to give drive to actions. You want to play the game and level up and get new weapons/skills, so that you can beat the villain who's been hounding you and being an asshole the whole game.

The PSX era, the gameplay was there to drive the story. You want to see what happens to the characters next? Beat the next dungeon and kill this boss for your reward - more parts of the story.

The modern era (PS2 to present) is increasingly about being a "cinematic experience" and the gameplay seems like a formality. "Look, this is technically a video game, so there has to be gameplay, but we'll make it as easy, streamlined, and sparse as possible so it doesn't get in the way of the story."
>>
>>318234339
XIII got a sequel
clearly square-enix is finding continued financial success in the series for the wrong reasons
given that they are a business, they will try to profit off of what worked last time
expect this to be the new style for final fantasy games, if you want the old style you fell in love with, then you need to look somewhere else.
>>
>>318242823
>its not a good FF but its not a bad game.
not him but i agree.
>>
>>318234339
FF never was great
only if you play games for the graphic or one of them was your first RPG

I still think both FF6 and 7 were great but they were a fluke and the battle system is still bad compared to the other JRPG
>>
>>318234942
This also fps drop
>>
>>318242596
the more the merrier for me
and even if I don't want to admit it FF is the face of the genre I don't think they were all great but I cant deny this fact
>>
ff7 is the best game ever.

I don't know what it was, but the demo hit ALL the right notes for me.

The scale of the area, the enemy designs, the faceless soldiers, the banter between all four party members, the incredible animations, the feeling of real friendship and camaraderie between all four party members, the believable outposts with NPCs that actually talk to one another, the great boss fight, and a hundred other little things.

Everything about it makes me want to play the full thing more than any other upcoming game I can think of.

Spirits from Within is one of the most straight up awesome movies I've ever seen. Fuck the haters.
>>
>>318245801
>Fuck the haters

That argument might work on Facebook, but I'm not letting it slip here. Tell me why it's "one of the most straight up awesome movies" you've ever seen.

Give me reasons.
>>
>>318245801

It wasn't the absolute disaster I thought it would be. But it also shouldn't be considered good. Its a forgotten movie because its just not great as a movie. Even outside of the Final Fantasy name (which it tried so damn hard not to be Final Fantasy, it really should be considered separate).

To put it in perspective, I saw it in theaters as a double feature with Rush Hour 2. And Rush Hour 2 was miles ahead of it as a movie. And Rush Hour 2 isn't a memorable film either...
>>
>>318245801

it was a great tech demo.

i'll have to go back and re watch it, i forget what it was really about.

felt like it happened in the ff8 world for some reason, but further in the future.
>>
>>318234339

Doubt it. I don't think Square-Enix has what it takes to make a great FF again. I haven't really enjoyed any of the Final Fantasys that have come out in the last 15 years.
>>
>>318239258

>No one plays these games for the gameplay.

People always become very puzzled when I tell them that I play RPGs for the gameplay.
>>
>>318241394

If you want a JRPG medieval fantasy series that doesn't switch to Sci-fi, play Dragon Quest if you haven't already.
