What videogame best captures the exploration of space?
Space Engine?

battlefront

Noctis IV.
There isn't one, which is why some many people have dumped millions into Star Citizen.
>>318213208
Wouldn't the moon being that close completely destroy Earth's surface?
>>318213208
What would this do to the oceans theoretically?
Also, would blood start gushing out of chicks pussies?
>>318212616
Elite: Dangernuts
>>318213208
spooky as shit
So /v/, if you could only get one, Elite dangerous or Space Engineers?
>>318213208
>that complete darkness when it passes in front of the sun.
>>318214252
Go with elite dangerous, cause your friends probably told you to buy space engineers.
>>318213836
Is ED actually any good. I've been considering picking it up but haven't gotten around to it
I mean.. if you haven't played this game in a few months, they've added a bunch of new features.
What's outside of the universe?
Kerbal Space Program is good if you want something a little more factually based, in that you have to consider rocket design/orbital mechanics more carefully.
>>318213002
This was actually pretty good. Ran like shit on my toaster too but still good.
MASS EFFECT
>>318213208
Fuck, I don't think I can finish watching that webm...
>>318214801

>>318214252
Star Citizen
>>318214682
If you want to get by in the game, it's basically Space Trucking the video game. But, once you got a good ship with good weapons and start fighting for yourself, the game becomes pretty fun. Graphics are bretty, too. So I would give it a try.

Black Emptiness waiting to be filled by exploding Dark Matter being pushed by Dark Energy into more Black Emptiness.
>>318214686
Have they? I haven't played since launch, is it actually worth going back to?
Halo: Reach
>>318214682
The mechanics are all very solid. Flying, combat, travel etc. It also looks and sounds amazing especially with HOTAS and VR. The issue is there isn't much to do, it literally plays like an updated version of the original Elite.
The basics of combat/trading/exploring are enjoyable enough but there is zero variety.
>>318215063
I enjoyed it even at launch, but things are very different now, yes.
>>318214252
Space Engineers, survival mode on the new planet system is the tits. Takes a bit of research, but fun as shit

>Black Emptiness
I read it as Black Empress, my mind was running wild for a minute.
>>318212616
Space Engine. You can see some neat stuff, like this.
Elite: Dangerous
Space Pirates and Zombies.
Really boring.
It captures the essence of space perfectly.

freelancer
>>318215870
literally the worst space exploration game. Just a good space trucker game
>>318216123
you know little
>>318214252
If you want to play a space game right now, elite dangerous. If you want to play space legos/minecraft, space engineers (literally no game to it right now).
If you can wait 2 years for freelancer 2, buy star citizen.

So god damned samey.
Had more fun exploring in space engine and fucking evochron mercenary. And that game is janky and ugly as sin.
>>318213862
I really fucking hate to say it but this is the right answer. You can explore an absolutely gigantic galaxy with tens of thousands of user created worlds and civs/creatures. You design your own little ship (not much point to it but still) and you can project a hologram of yourself to traverse the surface of planets you find.
No other game checks all of this stuff off their list, the only thing it's really missing is flying around freely from a cockpit view and some decent space combat.

>YOUR SHIT IS UNDER ATTACK GO DEFEND IT!
Kerbal Space Program
>>318216869
Yeah there's plenty to hate about it, but speaking purely from a mechanical perspective in what you can achieve, you can do a lot more in spore than you can in mnay other space games. You can land on planets and explore them to their entirety, you can trade with other races of intelligent life in the universe or you can straight up wipe them out, glassing planet after planet. Or you can go full starchild mode after reaching the center of the galaxy and just terraform and cultivate life and culture across the galaxy.

Spore was obviously incredibly disappointing, but that doesn't mean that it had nothing good going for it, it just didn't have as much good going for it as we were all told to expect
Now and always.

>can't exit your ship/walk around space stations or land on planets
>2015 Anno Domini
Come on now
>>318217957
OP said that it was space exploration, not planetary and/or ship exploration.
pick for me
System Shock: Enhanced Edition or Half-Life 1 Anthology and 1.23€ leftovers
>>318218112
One of the reasons why space engine is rated so highly in these threads is because of it's completely seamless simulation of space. Put some solid game mechanics into space engine and it will automatically become the greatest space exploration game of all time.
>>318218804
I wish stuff evolved though. I remember getting excited when I saw the ability to change how fast time goes, but then I realized it just makes things orbit faster.
>>318212616
Freelancer had great exploration
>>318218946
Yeah maybe one day anon, maybe we'll find planets with ruins and small civilizations on them, a man can dream.
>>318219016
I haven't played that game in years! great game but the last time i looked, it was a bitch to get a legal copy of it.

>>318218804
Yeah seriously. For years I've hoped that someone would staple some ship building/economics/dogfighting/multiplayer systems onto Space Engine and let us explore the galaxy, warring to control space resources in a beautiful seamless engine.
A man can dream.
>>318214682
It's one of those games where I want to enjoy it but it's too boring for me.
As other anon described it it's you need to enjoy games like euro truck sim first to enjoy it fully. If you're not into just grinding/doing repetitive actions over a long distance you prob won't enjoy it. Other than that it's fantastic and beautiful. Made me feel like I was actually in space.
>>318214682
In a sentence, it's a marvelous spaceflight & trading sim in search of meaning.
