I can ONLY count it good because Shmup's are getting a new breath of life thanks to coming towards PC, but that's about it.

Accurate, but you forgot to mention Nintendo's utter lack of care with titles like Happy Home Designer, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, amiibo festival, and so on.
The last two years have been pretty shit.
The last gen before as a whole wasn't great either.
The last good gen was the PS2/XBOX/GC/DC era.
When you take a good long look at all the eras you realise that what we've been missing is the middle-size companies that were more willing to experiment and put out unusual titles.
We would have had loads of games like Majin and the forsaken kingdom in the era I mentioned. Many more interesting exclusives that tailored to particular niches.
Most of these companies have either been eaten by giants like EA, gone bankrupt or broke apart to form indie studios/fuflill other internal departments to cut labour costs.

2015 has been far better than 2014, if only for the fact that all the delayed stuff from last year finally came out. 2016 is looking pretty similar, since we'll have things like XCom, Deus Ex, and hopefully Persona 5 to look forward to.
I think it was better than 2014 but still didn't excite me. Time to die.
