videogames and cigs don't mix because you can't smoke and code at the same time
>>
>>318206348
Alcohol gives you drunken strength, cigarettes do not.
>>
What games allow you to smoke ciggies? If it's something like Duke Nukem where you can't even see your character smoking and it just takes away health that doesn't count because that's just lame.
>>
>>318206692
mgs, deus ex, postal 2, lots of late 90's/early 00's games because the matrix and nirvana made them feel cool

cigarettes help you think, increase your focus. So it should steady head bobbing affect in fps games. If it's a detective game it could be something like every time you smoke you get a hint about where the next clue is or how to solve a puzzle.

Alcohol numbs your senses and gives you retard alcohol strength because you can't feel jack shit.

Cigarettes just slowly kill you while providing zero advantages.
>>
There aren't enough games were you can get pissed drunk. I feel like Rockstar is the only dev that does it.
>>
>>318206889

you don't see your character smoking in Deus ex. You just see a puff of smoke.
>>
Are there any games that actually do alcohol in a good way? Where, if you consume it, there's some cool effects like you stumble around or see things kinda wavy? In GTA 5, the problem is that your drunkeness only lasts a few seconds.
>>
>>318206348
What benefits do you think smoking gives, retard? If you think Charisma, that's very subjective since a lot of people know it's not "cool" to smoke anymore. Alcohol removes inhibitors so you can be as charming, or strong without thinking.

I think they did it best in GTA IV. You get wasted at a bar and you have drunker conversations with characters, where they often reveal more personal things about themselves. And when you drive, you go all over the place and the cops will chase you for drunk driving. It was pretty great.

>Consumption of 1,000–1,500 mg per day is associated with a condition known as caffeinism.[95] Caffeinism usually combines caffeine dependency with a wide range of unpleasant symptoms including nervousness, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, headaches, and palpitations after caffeine use.[96]

Caffeine overdose can result in a state of central nervous system over-stimulation called caffeine intoxication (DSM-IV 305.90).[97] This syndrome typically occurs only after ingestion of large amounts of caffeine, well over the amounts found in typical caffeinated beverages and caffeine tablets (e.g., more than 400–500 mg at a time). The symptoms of caffeine intoxication are comparable to the symptoms of overdoses of other stimulants: they may include restlessness, fidgeting, anxiety, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the face, increased urination, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid heart beat, and psychomotor agitation.[94] In cases of much larger overdoses, mania, depression, lapses in judgment, disorientation, disinhibition, delusions, hallucinations, or psychosis may occur, and rhabdomyolysis (breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue) can be provoked.[98][99]

Massive overdose can result in death.[100][101] The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individual sensitivity, but is estimated to be 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass (75–100 cups of coffee for a 70 kilogram adult).[102] A number of fatalities have been caused by overdoses of readily available powdered caffeine supplements, for which the estimated lethal amount is less than a tablespoon.[103] The lethal dose is lower in individuals whose ability to metabolize caffeine is impaired due to genetics or chronic liver disease[104] A death was reported in a man with liver cirrhosis who overdosed on caffeinated mints.[105][106][107]
>>
>>318209886

>Look this harming substance is also bad for you
Your point is? You still require less of alcohol for a overdose, if dehydration didn't kill you first.
>>
>>318210153

there's a difference between being psychologically addicted to something and chemically (physically) addictive to something. You're doing something that becomes a habit, a habit that becomes a big part of your day. It's no wonder that it's hard to quit. But is it actually chemically addictive? Not really. You're not going to have to go to the hospital for nicotine withdrawal like you might for alcohol or heroine withdrawal.
>>
Hey guys I have a fact for you that might enlighten the conversation
Do you know what alcohols literal effect on the brain is? Do you really? I don't think you do.
Alcohol is a molecule bigger than Water (hydrogen dioxide), when alcohol is in the blood it forces the levels of water in the blood down (kind of like salt). Now pay attention please, when the alcohol to water ratio gets too high in the blood, the water from your brain (yes your brain) is forces out into the bloodstream at a rapid pace causing DEATH of neurons. The feeling of drunkenness is temporary neural damage from rapid dehydration of the brain cells. So just in ase you thought it was something different, that's what it is. To the guy who suggests eating salt to replenish nutrients, you're better off just drinking more until you die.
>>
>>318210129
I wish it was that simple. Hangover is still pretty poorly understood scientifically. Dehydration is just one factor.

Just because everything in higher doses can harm you doesn't remove the poison status to the rest of the poisons, do you think poison is just something that will kill you in matter of minutes?

Alcohol is a weak poison, but still is one, it can kill in one day if you drank too much, you can't get heart attack from coffee in one day. Alcohol has no beneficial effects and only does harm, are you really this dense or are you that much of an alcoholic?

There are a myriad of attributed factors, but water intake alleviates a lot of them

>Dehydration contributes to sore throat, headache, etc.
>Drinking water to avoid dehydration prevents this

>Stomach irritation can cause acid production, leading to nausea
>More water leads to a lower acid concentration

So on and so forth.

Alcohol is bad. Honestly, there are other drugs that should be legal before alcohol. That having been said, alcohol does not kill you overnight and you can enjoy a few drinks responsibly without nearly the sort of side effects that guy implied.

Hammurabi's code dictated that if you watered beer down, you would be drowned in it.

Beer and civilization go hand in hand, partially because getting drunk feels good and it was one of the most universally produceable drugs, and partially because there were practical benefits to producing beer.

Ancient beer was largely substantially weaker in terms of concentration than modern beer.

The main benefit was sanitary, as the process of making beer ensured that water was properly sterilized and thus fit for human consumption.

Moderate amounts are good for your heart. Also increasing quality of life is a beneficial effect.

Human beings are just sacks of chemicals that eventually wear out and can no longer support consciousness. 'Poisonous' chemicals are just those ones that happen to cause lethal imbalances especially quickly. Poison is a human term, not a primal force of evil, and no human being will live forever even if raised on the most nutritious foods. Purity is a human concept.

No.

Hangovers have nothing to do with hydration. They are caused by your liver breaking the ethanol down into aceteldehyde, and the aceteldehyde being broken down further into formaldehyde, which is toxic and makes people sick.
>>
>>318214232
you know when you cut an apple in half and it starts to brown right away? thats oxygen doing that and thats what oxygen does to your body slowly over time. I wish I could breathe something nicer
>>
>>318214402
>Formaldehyde contributes to hangover symptoms

Granted.

>Hangovers have nothing to do with dehydration

Patently untrue in a vast majority of hangovers.

This needs to change

>It possibly even goes back to before agriculture with semi-sedentary hunter-gatherers as it appears that religious practices tied to beer and alcohol predate agriculture.
which is why its largely accepted that the very first beers were fruity types made from foraged berries and the like

We can't. Not anymore anyway. Back then before multi cellular life evolved there was only single celled life forms. Our atmosphere was mostly nitrogen and these life forms "breathed" nitrogen. But bacteria released a lot of oxygen as a byproduct which changed our atmosphere. Oxygen soon displaced nitrogen and killed of most forms of life. Only life forms that adapted to metabolize oxygen thrived and evolved. So we breathe oxygen due to what took place millions of years ago.

tl;dr: Life once thrived on nitrogen but nature took its course and now life thrives on oxygen.
>>
>>318214691
Yeah, that seems pretty likely.
>>
>>318215027
there was also a higher concentration of carbon in the air too. 15 fold or whatever of what we have today. but then trees and other carbon sucking lifeforms evolved and changed that
>>

Apples turn brown because of specific enzymatic processes that take place in the presence of oxygen, not because the oxygen is somehow corrupting and destroying it.

>there's an entire quest-line about selling weed in a fucking monastery
>>
>>318215234
you're just splitting hairs. its because of oxygen that it browns. it would be fine in any other atmosphere
>>
>>318215243
Why would that be odd? Drugs and religions have until recently gone hand in hand.
>>
>>318215524
It couldn't have grown in an atmosphere WITHOUT oxygen.
>>
>>318215718
weed seems pretty tame for a monastery though

>>318210803
you mean the sudden increase of blood pressure when the alcohols effect wears off?
>>
>>318215972
>sudden
It's also not increase in blood pressure but rather blood regaining its viscosity. Alcohol is a bloodthinner.
>>
dehydration has to be the main cause of hang overs though. the worst hang over I got was from a night of chasing whiskey with pickle brine.
>>
>>318216160
the pressure increases the thicker the fluid. also that means more blood than usual ends up in your head. causing it to ache
>>
>>318217696
You're confusing the cause with effect.
The cause is blood becoming thicker, the effect is increased blood pressure.

Too bad I have 3 CH and 10+ IN, so that's a perfect tradeoff for me.

there's a reason, anon. I'm sorry smoking isn't cool anymore. At least we still have Big Boss to remind us once in a while.
At least we dont vape

>slows you down and turns you into a zombie

No it does not. You feel like you're moving slower but that's because you're paying more attention to the passage of time while under amphetamines. Adderall makes you extremely focused once you've hit the minimum dose of around 50-60mg. Small doses like 30mg won't do shit, however and will just perk you up slightly. There's a reason why college kids abuse it more than any other drug.

Absolutely not.

It's actually a really shitty tradeoff unless it stacks with something else or can stack with itself.

Whatever works for you. The statement "slows you down" couldn't be any more wrong, is all I'm saying. YOU may feel slow, but that's just an illusion because you're processing information at a much faster rate than normal.

Pretty realistic except 9 beers dont wear off that fast, but sure does take that many to get a nigga going

What the fuck? Do they have the servings for beer and spirits mixed up where you live or something?
