That's only for the dungeons anon. You should play the game before shitposting.
>>
>>318199931
You just spammed the face buttons randomly
>>
>>318199931
It was turn-based with combos. Your characters were mapped to the face buttons. Press square for example, and Lenneth would attack. Your characters could use up to 3 attacks per turn based on the weapon they were equipped with. You could string together attacks with your characters, and if you chained together enough attacks, you could perform limit breaks.

Turn based. 4 characters, each assigned to a button. When you press a button, they attack. They all have 3 attacks per turn, with different ways to hit enemies for each character (a heavy swing that breaks guards, a uppercut that sends them flying, a straight multi-hit..). So you spam your buttons in order to do what you want, for exemple send an enemy flying then keep him airborne for everyone to hit him for bonus XP, or crush them to the ground for bonus energy, etc.

Usually you just spam all buttons then end your turn though.

Be sure to get the A ending. If you aren't playing on hard finish that game on B path and restart for A

CotP is mostly unrelated as far as the overall story goes. It's set sometime before 1 happens and you play as a human who's approached by Hel to make a contract for power. Uses srpg grid combat but turns into VP combat when you actually attack, with characters nearby joining in for the usual 4 attackers. It's not the best, but it's decent and has an ok story of its own. It's Seraphic Gate is almost a 2nd game entirely as well, which is amazing.

Its not even just "prepared", you need to know how to manage your ap well to attack, how you manage your orbs between your characters, how you channel your dual/try magics/excel arts, I was really surprised with the combat system and the bosses, the game is really good in that aspect.

Also having the cannon fodder mobs being too strong would make the game drag a lot since MP isn't really spammable and you'd have to go back to the inn a lot or completely avoid monsters on dungeons.

>99% of your time
>fighting random trash mobs in a JRPG is not the epitome of challenge in video games
You don't say.
>is just madly random button presses on the combat system
What a shallow way to describe the combat system. Every video game combat system can be described as "random button presses".
What about getting the timing right for your combos depending on the weight of the enemy to maximize your exp or the red crystals to restore your Spells/Soul Crushes faster? And there are plenty of enemies even in random battles that require certain timing to break their defense or to avoid their counter. The game also had a load of skills to supplement you in combat.

>What a shallow way to describe the combat system. Every video game combat system can be described as "random button presses".
That is just untrue, are you fucking retarded? If you plan what you're doing, its not random, unlike VC where you can really randomly press buttons and win fights.

Try to do that on Arc Rise Fantasia like the anon posted, you'll die even on normal battles (which aren't hard).

>>

Of course I know, I wouldn't say that the combat system is good... its very simple... I mean the way the game is designed is what makes it good. If the boss battles were boring I'd hate the game, desu I don't like the game in general, I just love the boss battles and music.

And after 7 and Celceta I really don't know if I like it anymore.

>a ton of ridiculously complicated bullshit

Don't wear the ring
Play til 4 or 5 normally
Make sure to beat lezard's tower when you recruit the teacher chick
Visit the meadow
Go to Lucian's town before divining his death
Get lucian and use him
Get Mystina and use her
Visit Brahms
Send lucian up before chapter 6? I think

If you get the extended scene with Loki and Lucian, you're done. Just visit the meadow again when you're done with chapter 8 instead of letting it time out.

It's stupidly easy to get A ending and takes minimal attention to detail. You don't even need to know the exact numbers for the seal rating stuff, just do it all in a later chapter at once and it all stacks perfectly for you. The only real requirements for A ending are to have visited the meadow, have less than 40ish seal rating, mystina recruited, met lucian before getting him and send lucian up by a certain chapter. Those are the triggers for him to prompt her and ask if she's platina. If you got that scene and your seal is still ok then the chapter summary of that chapter should give you the Loki scene and you're done with any prep.

I figured this shit out when I was 15 without a strategy guide or the internet and I was a fucking stupid teen
>>
>>318215345
Considering Grandia's battle system is unique to itself, it is the exact opposite of generic.

Shadow Hearts from the new world is really great.
It's a turn based game with timed hits and you can customize the judgement ring for every character. But on top of that you have a super meter that builds up during the fight that you can spend to lower the enemy's super meter, take two turns with one character, combo into another character's turn, or give every character a two turn combo attack. It's pretty fun because most spells are more effective at certain distances/heights and you need to rely on combo attacks to set up big special moves.
Enemies can make use of super the same way and it's incredibly dangerous to let them fight back because unless you get lucky you're almost certain to lose a character or two. It's a lot like SMT where the goal of each battle is to puzzle out a turn 0 victory. You go through SP pretty quickly so you really have to pick and choose which battles are worth going all out.
>>
>>318215697
Shadow hearts 2 is even better.

Menus, CG cutscenes are worse than the conversations they replace because they tell you less.

Emulating VP needs a certain trigger switched on in most PS1 emus or a tri-Ace fix in the case of epxse otherwise you hang on some triggers during scenes. The same fix causes one other hang when you recruit Gandar so you just make a hard save and restart the emu with the trigger off, get past the scene and turn it back on

You can download it on PSN for like 10 bucks dude. You will most likely not like the game.

Not to mention you can emulate it.

it's an in-game effect

webm doesn't have audio but man if a critical hits you get this really chunky, delicious noise, imagine if you hear it consecutively

The best RPG combat system is the one that's gotten over with the fastest. What are some other RPGs with blisteringly fast combat, /v/?

It was the first to get an international release and it's sort of the title that defined the franchise. At the time I likened it to how the jump of Air Combat -> Ace Combat was 8 years or so prior.
The core gameplay was the same, you had mechs on a grid and you chose the weapon loadout and it defined your strategy, but you had a much deeper story driving the game as well as leveling and other rpg'ish traits in the game. I think 3 was about a secret robot project being run by not-japan despite some sort of internation committee saying we should not build giant war robots and some terrorists jack it. I dunno, it's been awhile.

I'd like to learn what the fuck to do with the statue things in Illusion of Gaia. Game was fucking based but throws these brick wall puzzles at you

Not even close. It was a hunt for a new type of super-weapon that went missing with a bunch of synthetic humans in the middle.

Those were the numbers right? The two protags are forced to tag along in documenting the new mecha by some chick they pick up at a bar they find the controversial wanzer and I think fight outside of the base they're making a delivery to? Then they meet the gene modded number guys who want to take over the japanese govt. because they want to start another war.

Fuck. I should just go back and replay it.

That's the Emma campaign.

I prefer the Alisa campaign because Liu is based as fuck.

As for the 'numbers'. Imaginary numbers are the synthetic humans, notable ones being Emir (Emma), Alisa, Lukav, Ivan, All of Lukav's sub ordinates . Real numbers are what imaginary numbers call normies.

yes you should go back and play it.
