>>318159775
Just waiting for another stress test or beta wave.

I learned Ryu in beta 1 and did well, I learned Mika in beta 2 and did very well, and I re-learned nerfed Ryu in the stress test and stomped the shit out of people (didn't lose a single game in the stress test, all Ryu) despite Ryu supposedly being the worst character in the roster at the moment.

I'm totally avoiding SF4 at the moment because that "oki: the game" and will only build terrible habits for SF5 where everyone stands up in an instant and only CA's get hard knockdowns.

Waiting. I would try Ultra SF4 but I've seen nothing but shitty ping to other players.

There's no need to "prepare" anyways, SFV will finally introduce (actually functioning) skill based matchmaking to fighting games.
>>
>>318161889
I think you should relax dude.
>>
>>318162630
>SFV will finally introduce (actually functioning) skill based matchmaking to fighting games
Yeah, for the first month. Then after that when 99.9% of the people that started playing quit the game entirely all that's going to be left are the people who are really dedicated to the game itself, then you'll come back here to complain about how SFV's "skill based matchmaking" is busted and doesn't work.
>>
>>318162715
Why are you so butthurt, bro?
>>
>>318163503
I'm not lol. I only offered to help someone get better at the game and you went off on me, so I said relax.
>>
>>318162904
Competent matchmaking has only ever been repped in Rising Thunder, which is just a bad boring game all around. SF4's different shit from championship mode onwards have all had nonsensical rating schemes, and the actual matchmaking was already dead by the time Super came around. I'm willing to bet that decent matchmaking will go a long way for general user retention.
>>
Would it be worth it to get SFIV right now and just train basic fundamentals stuff that will carry over to SFV like anti-air, motion inputs and the likes, or am I better off just waiting for SFV altogether?
>>
>>318165079
Right now SF4 is setplay central. There's shitloads of SF4-specific technology involved if you want to be above literal monkey level. The most basic of the basics will carry over, but nothing you couldn't learn in a few days just playing SFV.
>>
>>318165305
This. The most important thing is just playing. Practicing fundamentals is most essential.

Reversal.

Currently I've been relying on trying to interrupt with jabs (but fuck that link) and nj.mk.
Should I just be saving my meter for FADCs in that situation? It's a really big hole in my current gameplan.
>>
>>318169713
Play Necalli.
>>
>>318170368
The honest answer is there is no universal answer. It depends on who you're fighting. Most people online will willingly jab an MK you until you're back to mid range so you can just let them do that. But obviously not everyone will.

Too a certain extent it also comes down to you playing sagat, he's kind of meant to suck when your shit is getting rushed down and you let them in.
>>
>>318170223
Are you talking about XI, 98UM, 2002UM and XIII?
>>
>>318170652
Damn, always sucks to hear that.

Fucking Oni man, he just jabs my shit then f.mks back in to start up again.
>>
>>318170904
Yep, good shit anon.
>>
I just started out with Ryu, I know how to cr.mk xx fireball and sometimes I can manage to land anti air shoryukens. What should I start to focus on learning next once I got my AA dps down?
>>
>>318170975
So the only games you've played because they're on Steam + XI because people online say it's good?
>>
>>318171068
Learn how to make them jump instead of relying on them to do it themselves.

Try to become an impassible object. You're job is to push them back and give up no ground yourself.
>>
>>318170950
If it were an easy answer you wouldn't need to ask.

Although if someone has pushed themselves back far enough they need to step kick in that may be your opening to do your jabs. Either you stuff him, or he does a crouch mk fireball, which is fine since it pushes you even farther back where you can do your sagat thing. Think about spacing.
>>
>>318171142
I have a PS2 you silly nig.
>>
>>318171545
Aight I'm gonna try and focus on hitting that jab when he tries to get back in.

Thanks anon.
>>
>>318171225
>Learn how to make them jump instead of relying on them to do it themselves.
This sounds interesting, but really I have no idea how I would be able to do that. I can't just spam fireball because then if I shoot one too many and the opponent jumps I eat a combo, the damage I'd get from a jump in combo is way higher than the samage I'd deal with an anti air dp, so its way too risky to do it I think.
>>
>>318171881
A good thing to keep in mind is you don't have to deal damage right this second, but they might not be thinking the same thing. There's a reason why the best players know how to walk forward and block at the same time.

>>
>>318171745
Which ones do you consider the two modern games? XI and XIII? How are 98UM and 2002UM not modern, they were released after XI? If they are good, why aren't the originals? They use the exact same mechanics, UMs only have bigger rosters. What is wrong with the other games that makes them not good? 97 uses the exact same mechanics as 98. Why do you consider XIII good when it has severely gutted movelists and an anime combo mode?
>>
>>318172093
What can I do if they have a normal that not only far exceeds the reach of my cr.mk, but also pushes me back so I can't just walk in or they'll just push me back on block, or hot me if I don't block?
>>
>>318171881
Work on your fireball patterns.
You dont have to throw them out whenever you can.

Also your DPs arent your only AAs.
You can also use all of his normals like cr.hp as an example.

Thats not easy though.

>>
>>318172264
XI and XIII are the moderm
98UM and 2002UM are only good because they're built off off two of the best classics. 98 and 2002 are good, but the UM versions are good by association.
98 makes 97 worthless
XIII may be gutted, but the admittedly ridiculous combo system makes up for it
>>
>>318172434
Ryu, I'm just starting out and want some tips to keep in mind about things I don't know yet how to deal with.
>>
>>318172591
Is that move a sweep? Because I can't imagine a move that far out ranges a basic crouch MK that doesn't have major recovery problems.
>>
>>318172746
I suppose saying it far outreaches it was an overstatement. Sometimes all a good player really needs to shut me down is a single normal that is but a tiny bit more reaching than my cr.mk and then all I can do is fireball.

I once faced this 5k PP Abel that absolutely destroyed me and I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing to stop him from getting up in my face in a split second, shit happened so fast. My friend says I play too defensively, but really I have little to no idea what to do offensively during the neutral game unless I score a knockdown, then I have some things I try, although I'm really, really bad at blocking wakeup dps so I fall for those a lot, but hey, living and learning, one day I'll stop falling for them.

Not really liking the direction they are taking with this game.
The game may end up being too straightforward and, therefore, boring if they continue removing stuff from characters. Characters like Ryu, Cammy and Nash got really mauled by these changes and it seems like they started removing stuff from other characters as well (like M. Bison and R. Mika).
>>
>>318173312
For close situations you will need to learn blockstrings and shit.
Gotta learn how and when to mix it up with overheads and grabs and thats where that whole conditioning game comes into play.

And there's little you can do against a good Abel as a beginner.
The character is mad homo and you will need to learn the matchup before you can do anything about him.

So the thing about moves like Oni's fmk is that, while it is very plus on block, it has significant startup. For instance, say Oni is just doing jab then the kick. There is a gap in frames. It might be tight, but you can jab or reversal out of it if you're fast enough. Same goes for Cody fwmp and Dudley's fwmp
