One of the most nostalgia inducing games for me, played it when it was in beta. Can't really go back to it now, it's too different and I'm kinda over grindy MMOs.

The newness has kind of ran off, and the sense of community seems long gone, replaced by many miniature communities which are generally created elsewhere.
There's not really anything to do besides kill monsters and follow through the quests, there's a story mode kind of thing, but with the game kind of being how it is, it's a chore to get myself to really go through with it. When I was a kid it was easier, being easily amused with the cute graphics and the sweet music and the neater and newer world, but now a days it's all old hat and it's not as bustling with random people you could party and chat up with.
I suppose that new Reboot thing might be interesting, since I've seen people talking about that coming up, but I don't know. I'm just waiting for Maplestory 2, since that might end up being the new hotness if it's released out of Korea.

I'm pretty happy about it. Kinda depressed knowing ive come back once a year for the last 8 years hoping to remember the feel of my early teenage years though.

I played this game back before 4th job was a thing, I'm not in a beta kids club but that's pretty close. I remember getting my Crusader all the way up to level 80, getting something like 8% per hour and feeling good about that. Fun times.
To be honest, I don't really care that they skewed the leveling curve so much that you can get to 140 in a week. I also don't mind much of the pay to win bullshit. What always kills me whenever I try to play again is the extreme amounts of "events" they have that require you to do X amount of things per day every day to get the best rewards. It feels like a job instead of a game and eventually I always reach the point where I ask myself "Why am I doing this?" and then I stop.
It was a cool game. The last MMO I ever played since they are so addicting. And while there were so many great things back then. I know that a lot has changed and there is only pain and disappointment down the road.

It had a great art direction with a lot of fun and interesting monsters. The idea of a 2D MMO was novel at the time when it came out, but as is common with most MMO RPGs it ended up feeling more like work than play after a while.
Community was 80% garbage.

I used to get so jealous when everyone I played with had cash shop items and those that didn't usually didn't play longer than a month.
I never could rationalize a reason to use my parents money on this game so I went most of my maple life trying to get all buddy buddy with certain people. Over time it worked and just by being their friend I got a nice cash shop outfit.
