K.Rool hasn't been relevant since the 90's. Even though we just recently got two new Donkey Kong games he hasn't shown up in any of them. Even Dixie was brought back. Him being added IS a waste of space (since people wanna attack the roster).

Yes and those are used as equivalents, just like Yoshi replaces the shoe in SMW and NSMB styles.
Thing is that SMW and SMB didn't have many powerups so there aren't really any equivalents there that can replace the SMB3 suits without making stuff up, which would take considerably more effort than just using stuff that already exists.
