http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/11/27/inside-star-wars-battlefront-the-greatest-and-most-addictive-star-wars-video-game-ever.html

>Each and every moment in the game is designed to make you think of Star Wars. It’s masterfully constructed. On some level, it doesn’t even matter if the game is any good, because it captures an essence.

>The costumes and weapons and locations are near-perfect recreations of those from the films, as DICE was given unprecedented access to the Star Wars vault. They used all sorts of high tech gadgetry to bring the original items into the digital world exactly how you remember them. But it’s actually not the visuals that make Battlefront feel so unique—it’s the sound design.

>We’ve had plenty of Star Wars games—some of them quite good—but hardware limitations have kept developers from truly capturing that feeling. Battlefront is the first game to do it.

Battlefront 2 with ninja troopers does not feel like star wars at all, and neither does kotor with it being set in a different era with nothing to tie in to the OT.

Someone wrote that with a straight face.

While this article is total bullshit I do think Battlefront is the most Star Wars feeling game.

I mean every sound effect and visual effect is super authentic. I hope that future Star Wars EA games give that much detail in a far better game.

Video games journalism needs to die.
>>
Basically
>the game is good because it reminds you of how good the movies were

This is the #1 problem with star wars-derivative media
They are too busy trying to remind you of the original trilogy that they get no identity of their own, and explore no new ideas

I know this isn't a review of the thing but it sounds like a huge whitewashing of a game that is mediocre at best.

Well, no, "video games journalism" doesn't have to die, as there are sites that do their job well, but dilettantes like this writer should not be given any attention.
>>
>>318043329
>I mean every sound effect and visual effect is super authentic.
It's SW. If laser swords would not sound like laser swords and blasters not like blasters it would fail as a SW game. But since the SW sound library is so well established it is the LEAST a game has to manage to be SW.
>>
yeah it's a great game, 1080p 60fps, looks amazing to say the least, plays well, classic star wars, the level of detail is beyond insane

it's a dream come true for star wars fans
>>
>>318043582
It has content though. It will have next week 10 modes on 5 planets with 14 maps, it has single player/ co op stuff (tacked on but so was battlefront 2s). Pricing is the standard AAA price, so I'm not sure why thats a shock or issue. Now who knows wether the dlc will be worth it, but thats the same for every game as well. Is the game average for a shooter? Absolutely. It's great as a star wars game though.
>>
They're just dancing round the inevitable "games don't have to be good to be good" articles.

I have to admit that i am having a lot of fun with it, the point is that its a game with about 20€ value, yet it sold for 50€
And dont gt me dtarted on the 4 dlcs that are going to cost 15€
>>
>>318043938
Just because battle©uks accept DICE's typical $60+50 bullshit doesn't mean it's standard AAA.
>>
>>318045295
To elaborate on my statement.
You have hardly any weapon variety. There are like 10 and you cant customise them, and thats the worst part.
Also there are in my opinion 2 viable hands, grenade and jetpackor grenade and ion thing.
Also there are no space battles, so thats pretty low content.

yeah there is, as dlc!

They said first "spcae battles would be TOO HARD TO DO SO NO SPACE BATTLES" then a few weeks later, they say iy's coming as dlc.

It's all bullshit considering battlefront 2 had space battles, it's not that fucking ahrd to do.
>>
>>318046215
> no barrage
> no flash nade
> no pulse rifle
> no homing shot

There's way more than impact nades that are useful offensively. If you don't have ion torpedos and ion shot in your offhand you're fucking up tho.
>>
>only talks about the aesthetics
>not noteworthy praise about the gameplay

This is so fucked up.

>who cares if the game is shit, it's star wars
>>
>>318046256
I think it's important to also look at the content you're getting for the money you buy these games for because with SW Battlefront it actually feels like you're paying $60 for half of the game and $50 for the other half that comes with DLC.

That's why people are saying it's $110, regardless of what other publishers decide to do with their games.
>>
>>318047542
Since games can't up the retail price and haven't been able to in over a decade, despite much higher costs to make them, they have to up something. At least this way it's optional.
>>
>>318047843
And yet, it's the same with BO3, and nobody cares. BO3 mp is a hot mess. Sure it has a campaign, but who the fuck buys BO for that especially now that balance is fucked if you play solo.
>>
>>318048027
Because people already cared too much with previous entries to the point that they have run out of cares to give with the latest ones. Having every single penny squeezed out of your balls is already synonymous with CoD that people just roll their eyes and move the fuck on.

I guess a lot of people were just hoping that it wouldn't be the same case for Battlefront and yet, here we are.
>>
>>318042871

>KotOR

While I appreciate what you are saying, KotOR 1&2 do things with the Star Wars universe that remove them from really capturing that Star Wars feeling ,to their credit.
>>
>>318047862
Maybe if the content was worth it but it hasn't justified the price in a long time.

Tell me how games in 2015 have less content than games from a decade plus ago?
>>
>>318046869

>not noteworthy praise about the gameplay
>thedailybeast

what did you expect, these guys can't even do real journalism on subject they pretend to know about. Games are just more advanced movies to these people.
>>
>>318048654
It takes vastly more in time and money to make said content now compared to then. And if we're specifically comparing BF2 to BF2015, BF2 was a full priced level pack for bf1. All the models and content were reused from 1. It took almost no time to shit out sinple levels like they did back then once assets were already in place.

TB fucking trashed Battlefront in his latest WTF vid. While I normally don't agree with him he hits the nail on the head with his arguments on SWB being shit.

It is dying, kotaku can´t even make is subtle that they frantically need to produce clickbait to keep afloat, they can´t afford to have good journalism, because that would put the last nail in the coffin, and everyone knows that their word on actual games is nothing to be trusted.
Now people need only realize that they can get their yellow press from equally readily accessible sources that also sport better writers.
Then it is dead for good.

The Falcon is objectively bad from a gameplay perspective, being OP as all hell. It's still fun as fuck to go on a killing spree in it though, both for movie nostalgia sake and because it's just fun to do. Same goes for heros... except maybe Han and Vader.
