But the philosophical aspects were shit even by Kojima standards, there were no truly "Ah ha!" technology moments, the boss fights were terrible, the level design left plenty to be desired, the AI was hilariously incompetent, mission structure was repetitive and the base building aspect was more important than the actual gameplay itself.

Anyone else that hasn't been conspicuously silent on the matter (Toro, Reedus, Otsuka) is close enough to it all that, were the ruse real, they would no doubt be in on it, and any public comments they made would be in participation with it.

There were some good bits in the tapes. The Skullface and Codetalker one comes to mind, and the Burger ones too. The Truth tapes were great, and made me long for a better game. Chapter Two had a lot of good moments. Everything with Huey was really good. The twist was lame in the context of the game, but adds to the series as a whole and to the character of Big Boss.
Its true that the plot was scarce and loose, but what I got I liked.

Yeah. I personally stopped playing after chapter 1 finished and the option to build nukes came out. Didn't build one even if I could have constructed one.

The nonlinear story telling really doesn't help what story is there very much either. You have some gold in the tapes for sure but you can't listen to those without interruption whilst playing the game and when you sit and listen to them you kind of wish they had the same level of production that cutscenes in GZ had.
