I'm still astonished at the level of care and attention to detail that Bethesda gives to their games. Truly, the most immersive experiences that vidya has to offer.

None of it makes sense. People have been living in towns for decades and it's still filled with broken shit and garbage. Sure, for the first couple of years it might not be that important, but you'd think someone would repair or patch the buildings after some time.

I know the devs said that they're after the post-apocalyptic feel even if it doesn't make sense, but they could have done something better.
Fuck, why not say that some radioactive fog covered this state/town/area for many years and has only drifted away 1-2 years ago? That would explain why everything still looks like shit and why nobody bothered to loot the empty building 2 minutes away from where they live.
They're being lazy fucks as always.

Bethesda are retarded and insisted on setting the games (Fo3/Fo4) after Fallout 2. If they were set around the same time as Fallout 1 it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

Fallout 1 is a post-apocalyptic game, Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas are post-post-apocalyptic games, and Fallout 3/Fallout 4 which are set around the same time as New Vegas are run-down "20 years after the bombs dropped" sorta feel post-apocalyptic games. It's just Bethesda completely misunderstanding the setting of the franchise they bought.

because radioactive fog is a stupid explaination

the fact that the area was bombed to hell is understandable for most people.

Post-post apocalyptic is not the aftermath of an apocalypse, but what happens after people have struggled by the initial trouble that the apocalypse left.

The NCR is building a government and trying to gain influence in Northern California during the events of Fallout 2, Redding is hooked on Jet and multiple factions are vying for control of Redding, the NCR hired a New Reno family to get mercenaries to attack Vault City, to make Vault City submit and beg the NCR for help. The Enclave are trying to unleash FEV to purge the mainland and make america great again.

Fallout 2 is all about politics in a post-nuclear world, not about the initial struggles through the radiation and lack of supplies.
>>

Guess, what? "post-apocalyptic" cover that too you goddamn neanderthal. Stop thinking your fuckboy Josh somehow invented this thing that nobody before has ever done in storytelling. Have you seen third world countries?
They look like FO4 towns.

Consider this:
The people that live in Diamond City can barely leave the city to gather supplies for building.
They can't order drywall, or have new support beams forged, or have concrete deliver to them, or even have properly sized lumber cut.
There are no roads (which make construction far easier) or factories producing the materials for proper construction.
Literally all they have to go on is the bit of salvage they can bring back/trade for, because the outside is full of Raiders and Super Mutants.
>>
>>317857614
Mad Max would be post apoc
Road Warrior would be post post

I agree they both fall under the category but there is a distinction that could be made one is the end of civilization happening or just happened and people are dealing with it vs the apocalypse happened, people dealt with it and here is their new world

So how is calling everyone some flavor of faggoty-ass faggot supposed to prove that your overly literal interpretation of post-apocalyptic obviates the usefulness of describing a period which comes after a thoroughly explored fictional period defined by its sore, fresh afterness to a world changing calamity? Come up with your own word for that shit (post apocalyptic restoration?) Way easier to just put it in terms of the known category, especially when that category is a major hinge of the discussion (that their post apocalyptic setting inexplicably takes place way later than is evident from how the world has developed, and ought to have better reflected being after, post, that period).

Srsly get laid you bitch. Ill shove a broom up ur puss puss and you'll thank me after. How's that for some words you can Google?

>>
>>317860442
seriously. i was baffled when i found out it was 200 years later. fucking why?
>>
>>317855784
I'll never understand why they set New Vegas and 4 200 years after the war but make it feel like the war ended ~40 years ago.

I was playing 4 today and was in that vault with all the triggermen in it, and they are talking about making construction projects just to keep union workers their jobs. Would gangsters 200 years after the collapse of civilisation where raiders are a persistent problem really have knowledge of unions, how they work and the manipulation of gangsters would take part in more than 200 years ago? I cut the game a lot of slack because I can recognise that it's mostly just about having pretty dumb fun, but it's just a retarded idea that people must have actively put into the game and somehow not realised how dumb it is.

>>317856204
This is addressed in Fallout 3 by claiming that the east coast was bombed much more heavily then the west coast. The bombs used in the fallout universe were easily 100x more powerful than the baby bombs of ww2.

Well, the NCR with their sandbrick houses haven't expanded into the mojave yet, they're vying for control of that area, in the same way that Redding and New Reno are pretty messy compared to Vault City and the NCR.

A lot of that can also be explained by reusing Fallout 3's assets anyway, it's not like Obsidian could remake everything and release the game on-time. What is important to the "post-post-apocalypse" thing with New Vegas is that it has a very similar setting to Fallout 2, the lore is all there, the biggest faction in the Fallout universe is there (the NCR) and it's about politics and war in a post-nuclear world, rather than struggle for survival and people making Junktown clones everywhere 200 years later.

I hope that was the case, at least it would make some sense. I still don't get why they bother setting it so far into the future and don't change that significant about the setting.
>>
>>317861020
Because the games were originally post-nuclear. As in society is already pretty much rebuilt and its an excuse to have weird looking creatures to fight because of radiation.
>>
>>317860829
Those places were only bombed locally. A full scale global nuclear war would trigger a nuclear winter (caused by all the smoke and dust ejected into the atmosphere blocking out the sun) followed by a nuclear summer (the shit in the atmosphere eventually dissipates but the planet would get really hot from the greenhouse effect). So you would have something like Metro 2033 followed by something like Fallout 4. There's really no telling how long or how badly this would affect life on Earth. But an environment like in Fallout 4 is possible. And wooden buildings would not decay as nukes sterilize the environment. This would also apply to corpses.

I don't think people know a lot of NPC have dialogues for when you just walk away.

When you're about to board the blimp with Danse, walk away in the conversation. He will yell at you to get right back if you want to continue being part of the brotherhood.

Leave the station, return, and he'll tell you he aren't allowing you on the blimp and won't sponsor you any further before you've done more shitty repeatable mission to prove you're not just fucking around.

The 'hot zone' from Chernobyl was surrounded with plant life.
Plant life spreads.

All plant life in Fallout was wiped out by the bombs, it would take far FAR longer for the few surviving plants in remote areas to eventually spread.

Plants don't just magically appear.

They don't want you to say no to any of the quests. Why would you ignore content? Either you do it because it's the right thing or you do it because it benefits you in some way. They wisely made it so you can pick "asshole" as a character and mash b the entire game to see what happens. I like it.

Pretty stupid example considering that's a settler for a settlement (a misc minor sidequest) you've been sent to help so they're now in alliance with you and the minutemen and you're the representative/general for the minutemen.

There's a lot of genuinelly good stuff about the game... but there are also heaps of bad parts as well.

Even something like the voiced protag isn't bad per-se and has enhanced a lot of things in the game (for example the silver shroud questline as a male) which wouldn't even have been half as good in plan text form.

For such a big AAA game it feels sloppily put together with some spotty directing/design.

Yes? It's in their right.
I can obviously dislike the retcons, but if the owners of the rights feel they want to change the canon then that's up to them. They can write the guy out from FO2 that "invented" jet completely if they wished.

You really need to look at them seperately, not only because of the ownership shift but because they play vastly differently.
