Glitches are usually the source of most scary shit in vidya, mostly because you get surreal situations out of wonky coding

The one glitch i'll never forget though is the one in skyrim with the moving mannequins

You see, bethesda had the idea to make mannequins out of wooden-skinned NPCs that are not allowed to move, so they could show off clothing and armor without any issue or extra code needed

The thing with these mannequins are that they're scripted not to move at any time, but will sometimes glitch out and start wandering around your house and looking for you, since their default script when not immobile is to trigger the action to seek you out and say "you need to leave" like the other NPCs when you force your way into their houses, but seeing as they have no voice files, they'll just stare at you with a blank expression since they have no faces

>tl;dr skyrim manequinns aren't incapable of moving, they're just choosing not to move

This motherfucker

I can swear I saw the fucker going inside a hallway that ended up on a room with an empty bed frame that had NO OTHER PHISICAL EXITS. I knew this because I had memorized most of the map so I hopefully wouldn't get caught off guarded. I also knew I had to go inside that room to pick a key or something. I went in running like a faggot expecting to see him upfront. When I didn't see him right away, I turned arround confused and the fucker was sprinting at me from my back, from outside the room.

>>
OP's pic kind of reminds me of a dream I once had.

Once upon a time, I was super sick. Like, it took a ton of effort just to move my arms. I don't remember what I had, because I was so out of it. But the dreams are branded on the inside of my skull.

Most are not worth talking about, but one night in the peak of my fever madness, I had the most awful recurring dream. I would fall asleep, and then instantly wake back up. But I wasn't really "awake."

The door would creak open, and the light switch would be flipped. I'd see this horrible woman in a black dress with jet black hair slowly limp into the room, with blood running down her face from gory eyesockets. I couldn't move or scream, just watch as she lurched to the side of my bed.

She would hunch over and just stare at me, blood dripping down from her gouged out eyes and falling onto my face. I'd try to scream for help, but no sound would come out. She made no sound. But then she would touch my face with a wrinkly pale hand, the lights would flicker off, and I'd wake back up in the real world.

I'd sweat for a few minutes and hyperventilate before passing out, where it would happen again. And this happened at least a hundred times before day broke.

>>
>>317777934
I've studied this. It's called sleep paralysis and what you described fits perfectly. The reason it was what you mentioned was probably because you were already feeling like shit so you saw shit. Sleep paralysis can be happy rainbow faggycorns and then it can be what you described, it's just what you think at the moment. Since you're sick, you probably feel weak and in pain so you saw something of a negative nature.

The reason you saw it over and over so many times is because your already thinking "Well, here comes the lady again." so it happens. And since your body is in a state of heavy repair against its sickness, your mind is preoccupied and not concerned with putting you fully to sleep.

As for what you experienced itself, it's called sleep paralysis and is kind of like the cross between awake and asleep. It's where your body has fallen to sleep and gone into sleep mode but your mind is still PARTIALLY awake. So it starts to simulate a dream but you can actually see what is happening. You couldn't move because your body is already asleep and can't do shit. The reason that most stories of this are scary is because people are already scared at the fact that they can't move and this just triggers your brain into showing horrific things, especially things coming after you because the brains first instinct upon your inability to move is "Holy shit anything can catch me now", so the demon is partially yourself conjuring it and your brain giving itself a pinch/punch to wake your body up and run from it.

It's usually rare but in your case it is common. However, many people who practice lucid dreaming use a technique which involves purposely going into sleep paralysis so you can slip right into it. Just remember, it won't be scary as long as you don't think it will be.
>>
>>317776027

Why are there so few deep-sea horror games? You could literally make a Dead Space clone, set underwater, and it would still be fantastic.

>Set in huge deepsea research station, instead of space station
>Main character has an advanced diving suit instead of an engineering suit
>Fight mutated aquatic life that takes over the station instead of Necromorphs
>Have to occasionally venture outside the station, in the dark expanses of water, to fix things or retrieve certain items
>Insanity effect coming from an ancient submerged temple, eventually have to go in there to find out what's causing it

I recall a period of time when i was 15 where i would always wake up at 4:30-35, and i mean fucking always (to the point i slept in class once)

And every single night i had a weird ass dream, i had a dream journal and it seems they were connected with things that were conistent.

In each dream it started out either in a normal situation, be it in school, house, in downtown, with friends or some shit like that, then thought the dream i would always spot people that had like blurry faces or not any face at all, so for whatever reason i have in my journal that to be able to escape the dream i needed to search for a light-switch in any wall.

Every-time i hit the light-switch the dream would turn into a nightmare of sorts, hitting the light-switch let me know that i was dreaming, but it also made me realize of those people in the crowd didn't had a face and they would move around the people i was hanging out with in the dream. Stalking me from behind and each time they grabbed me i would wake up agitated.

I am reading this dream journal right now and jesus christ what the fuck i was dreaming about 10 years ago.

Pic related, from the description, they had no face but they had features like they once had eyes or some shit.

>Literally just sinking the entire facility so it acclimates to the pressure over time
>Game starts out peaceful, you have to repair any breaks as they occur, permanently tethered to the facility as it descends deeper
>Pass all the pretty, interesting, and deadly sea-life
>Things start to get interesting when the deeper beings show up and you can't see more than a foot in front of you with your head lamp on
>Deep depths, chunks of the facility can't handle it and begin to break apart as you continue to do your work fixing what you CAN fix
>The nightmarish things and telepathic abominations begin showing up
>Insanity begins to drip all over your mask
>The only sound inside and outside the facility is the continual creaking of the facility under endless pressure
>Finally hit rock bottom
>Facility is in at least a dozen chunks and you have to gather all the oxygen you can to stay alive until you find a safe spot
>It's there and you realize, it always was
>A single glowing eye opens up in the cavern you found real air inside of
>game ends as the cavern begins to break apart

Man, I'm so fucking afraid that I'll have sleep paralysis one day, my mother suffered from it for a long time and everything I've read about it makes me terrified.

I've had experiences with like, demented lucid dreams? I don't know how to describe them, I've never seen anyone else talk about them, but basically I would be aware that I'm dreaming, and able to control myself (just walking and etc,) and I'd always be being chased and my dream self would beg me to wake up, or else they'd die/something bad would happen.

Anyway, a good example is, early on, you are entranced by a picture because it's the focal point of the room, cliche.
It melts and there's that insanity effect where everything goes haywire for a second before settling back down
You turn around and a wave of books that was previously on a side table flies at you from the center of the room.
It's shocks you, but has no negative impact against you and just surprises you a wee bit.
Also, no reliable torrents yet cause it's still an Early Access.

I honestly couldn't tell you why it's still in Early Access.

>>317783238
No. The plot of SOMA is that a guy in toronto with a bleeding brain injury goes in for a high tech super scan that might help guide his treatment plan.

when the scan helmet comes off he's in 21xx, the world has been destroyed by a super comet, the nanotech unconcious AI running the underwater research station has gone haywire, and the last bittersweet hope of the species is to launch a brain-scan ark of maybe fifty people into orbit.

The only problem was that i didnt fucking like what was happening so I freaked out a little and then in my dream it was as if I was talking to someone over a radio. The person on the other side told me that "we can wake you up, but you won't like it". After he said that i saw boxes with parachutes falling from the sky (kind of like in mgsv when you call for supply drops, but this was way before that. And there were a lot) And then I woke up, and the person was right, I didn't like it. I felt like shit. Then i went back to sleep

You're both near the money. Sleep paralysis involves the mechanism in the brain that keeps you from moving based on what you're dreaming. So that you aren't flailing your arms or running IRL when you are in your dream, or rolling off your bed like a dipshit and hurting yourself. You can hallucinate in this state for reasons that I can't cite properly. Usually shit out of the corner of your eye, but it gets more intense. Basically you're consciously awake, but that switch is flipped to keep you immobile.

Some people have the opposite problem and thrash like motherfuckers in their dreams because that switch doesn't flip properly.

A lot of the old school myths about shit visiting you in the night like demons and spirits are theorized to have been based on people's experiences with sleep paralysis, which is terrifying when you don't know what's happening. Also attributed to Alien Abduction stories.
>>
>>317785668

I had EHS once a few months ago. Every time I'd start to actually go to sleep I'd hear loud popping noises. Happened through the entire night, along with vivid horrifying images every time I'd close my eyes. Like the kind of shit that HP Lovecraft probably saw in his dreams; just indescribably horrific things.

I eventually just took some sleeping pills because I literally couldn't sleep without them. Hasn't happened before (well, the popping noises haven't, I've had nights where I see horrific images happen sporadically my whole life) and it hasn't happened since.
>>
>>317785541
Wario World in general just felt.. Not right.

I dunno, you go in expecting one thing with the level and enemy design and it turns out completely different.

Blinx the Time Sweeper kinda felt the same way because the enemies look like they were designed during a fever dream.

Anyone know what I mean?
>>

>>317781184
Anon, it isn't hard to give it a Google. Did you really think that there's no mechanism in your body to keep you from moving around in your sleep? Sometimes it doesn't work and you get sleepwalkers, night-terror thrashers, kickers, night punchers, all kinds of stupid shit.

Sleep paralysis is just being technically awake but still immobile. It's only batshit scary if you don't know what's going on. Also a well documented and studied medical phenomenon.

It can happen to anyone. Might happen to you one night.

I get sleep paralysis regularly. Hallucinations have ranged from shadow tentacles wrapping around me to spooky faces yelling, to ghost sex.

It's not as bad anymore with the hallucinations. I can calm myself down and break out of it easily. It's a control thing, and when I realize I'm in total control, the fear dissipates and turns into power.

Imagine trying to break free from metal shackles, except you know you can do it. It's dope.

I dont know if anyone would find this useful but this is my experience.
