Do synths deserve to live?
>>
Why would the institute create sapient beings just to enslave them?
>>
What was the point of synths anyway?
>>

They deserve to be scrapped as viscerally as possible.

If sentient, yes?

Paladin Danse. He's the guy you talk to in order to join the Brotherhood. Turns out he's a synth, but doesn't know it. He wants you to kill him when he finds out.

Yes.

They're human enough that they should be treated as human. The only reason the Institute is shitty about them is because they want the free labor they can treat like shit from their literal ivory tower

At first it was just SCIENCE and the pursuit of it, but automatons have their use for basic human tasks and the Institute saw that.

The sentience, life-like appearance, and whole covert infiltration thing is the result of the institute deciding that the wasteland would be better off with their own humans in place instead of real humans

How about that fucking synth manufacturing machine, though? That's some serious technology.

You can't tell if they're even sentient. Philosophically speaking you can't even tell if people around you are sentient.

Why should they be allowed to live? They're man-made machines capable of destroying and occupying the entire wasteland for themselves. Incredibly dangerous. They we're created by man, they're not natural.

Basically Bethesda realized how bad they fucked up by killing off the Enclave, who were the only cool bad guys from the series. So, rather than do something smart, like bringing the Enclave back and this time letting you side with them, they did something gay.

That gay was The Institute, an underground organization of scientists who had no reason whatsoever to be evil, to manipulate people on the surface, or to create a slave-army of sentient robots.

They did all three of those things anyway, because otherwise there would be no plot. The Synths were there because we needed a disposable cheap adversary to fight, and it didn't make any sense for the Institute to send actual humans to fight you--they wouldn't have the numbers for it.

Why does the Institute insist on using synths? Why make synths with higher and higher level of reasoning? Why use them for infiltration when things like coursers can already up and murder everything? Why does the Institute keep striving to make them more and more human when even Father has a diminutive stance on them? What happens when everyone's replaced by a synth? Will the Institute replace themselves with synths?

I just don't understand the Institute. What do they want?

it's implied that the Institute had been replacing more people with synths than just the half dozen or so you see in the game

remember, with Bethesda games, scale is key. Those aren't villages you see, those are cities with upwards of 10,000 people living in them. That isn't a minor skirmish you just witnessed, that was a full-fledged battle against two warring factions. And it wasn't just two or three people being affected by a certain circumstance, it was about 100+.

9.1/10 it was okay. But come the fuck on, Bethesda. I lost interest in the game at the points where I was forced to just go kill everyone and everything just because, regardless of any of my actions throughout the game. After the "ending" this shit just feels even more hollow.

The only almost-good point is the fact that for once I was actually kind of torn between deciding on who to side with... but not for a particularly good reason; just because every option was a trite piece of shit.

This, I did the institute ending, the canon ending, and midway through working with them i was like, If they are reclaiming runaway synths, why would the institute be replacing flesh and blood people with synths if all they want to do is stay underground. It doesn't work, you cant have it both ways bethsoft, you cant have a reclusive organization underground building its robots AND have them be the boogey man, it doesn't work. Why have the synth retention bureau track down rouge synths if you plan on replacing all the people above ground with synths anyways.

That depends, do you think that the master with his army were actually right?
Like with the whole changing people into a superior being and linking everyone mind into a hive mind as to make it so most if not all adversity for humanoid kind would be done away with.

Honestly between the institute and the master, the masters plan is better since one would still retain a actual part of their humanity instead of being a shity robot cyborg thingy
>>
>>317526913
Sure, it matters but it's not even possible to know if the synths are conscious and self-aware.

>Synths ARE conscious and aware of themselves

They're aware of their true power = dangerous

>Synth's AREN'T conscious and lack self-awareness

Kill them all.
>>
>>317529063
There's generally no indication and synth settlers will usually operate normally. Sometimes random shooting may break out among the inhabitants and if the synth is killed you can find a synth chip on them. Also if you have the Awareness perks synth settlers will have natural energy resistance in VATS, though if you randomly kill them without them showing hostility first then the rest of the town will attack you.
>>

Bethesda hasn't been able to write a compelling or coherent antagonist since Morrowind. Nothing about the Institute makes sense. Their goal is to redefine mankind, but they shun transhumanist exploits like mechanical or genomic augmentation in the name of human purity while manufacturing armies of human lookalikes that are actually much better than average humans. Despite making these synths effectively human in every way save their improvements, they vehemently deny the possibility that they're sentient creatures deserving of free will. Those who object are asked to leave. They've completely forsaken diplomacy after a poorly explained instance partially caused by their own meddling, preferring instead to abduct and terrorize people. Despite their profound collective intellect, they're a bunch of unproductive assholes with no clear goals.

No.

The fact that literally anyone can reset them or change their personality at a whim makes them nothing more than machines.

All the railroad does is reset and release Synths. That isnt free will, its just letting toasters walk around.

It'd be nice to see that in a dialogue, but you'd need a karma or better faction system to have that.
