We already know it's possible to change their names, voices, etc depending on the skin. So long as the character matches the original physically, even things like animation effects can be changed without affecting hitboxes or stats.

I've seen a Brawl/PM mod that places a Metal Sonic skin over Sonic and it looked really awkward because it was still using normal Sonic's animations. (Sonic's running animation for example does not fit Metal at all.)

I voted for Wonder Red, I'd also love to see Simon Belmont. I'm guessing all of my top most wanted are unlikely but I already got all of my other most wanted characters in the game already so I'm pretty pleased with the roster and will probably be happy with whatever they do as long as it's fun.
Most of all though I want to see some new modes. Adventure mode would be fantastic but I'd also settle for other kinds of options for standard multiplayer battles.

Isaac was my first choice, but with Cloud just revealed, I'd prefer Wonder Red; I know he has no chance, but he's still my top choice. Isaac would still be all right if his moveset focused on telekinesis and earth magic, though.
Otherwise, I'm fine with about any first party Nintendo character. I've had about enough of third parties excepting Banjo, who is still a Nintendo character in my heart.
