The Heavensward story at least handled the whole chosen one thing a lot better this time. They had you stripped of the echo for 99% of the MSQ and all that you did was of your own ability. They also brought NPC companions a lot closer to the player's level of strength (without echo) and the disparity of ability was a lot less apparent as your companions were much more capable this time around story-wise.
Overall it was a better transition because it showed that you, the player are a strong adventurer of your own volition and the power of the echo is only a boost that makes you that much greater.

The power of echo is so revered because it - lorewise - allows users to essentially keep redoing things should they fall. Hence why you just reset when you fail something. Its why you get more of the echo when you keep failing.

Nearly everything can be done in the DF, and you can't really play with those people you befriend in DF because chances are extremely low that you get queued up with someone that's on your sever.

Aside from crafting and gathering there's a lot of "fluff" stuff like minigames, housing, gardening and such.

I would recommend the game if you have friends you can play with(Or can easily make some), but if you're playing solo(like me) it can get dull quite fast.

You can do one of 2 dungeons every day to get tokens for gear. There are also 3 trials which are bosses on their owns. You also have two LFR-tier raids with 4 bosses each. One is a 24-man and the other is a 8-man.
There's a hardc version fo the 8-man which is the hardest content in the gamle at the moment but you can still beat it with a pug if your mates aren't too stupid and are well-geared.
You can also complete the ARR trials and raids if you manage to find a group. They're pretty good too and even with 10 more levels some are still challenging.

I was doing the relic quest and dropped the game once I got to the Book farming. Even after being nerfed I simply don't have the patience to deal with this level of banality. There's no way I'm gonna stick around since I can expect the new HW relics to be an equally shitty grind.

3.1 story is very condensed. In 2.X we do really minor quests like 1 quest = get meat for a trap you set up in the next quest. 3.1 didn't really have minor shit like that, and even simple quests had some lengthy cutscenes in them showing what else was going on with the world. So I would say 3.1 is really good, just that it lacks too much excitement. But that's understandable since the story is just leading up to the climax at 3.55 and based on what we've seen so far, 3.55 is going to be great.

DRG will be the longest grind of your life. DRG is my main and I wont switch it up, but holy shit is it boring to level.
At level 8, you get a skill called Impulse Drive. It pumps out more DPS than any other DRG skill/combo until you unlock Full Thrust at level 26. So for nearly 20 levels, the best way to play LNC is to do nothing but spam Impulse Drive, occasionally keeping Heavy Thrust up and using Leg Sweep whenever it is available.
Imagine 20 levels where you just use ONE skill.

There were approximately five-six parties farming in the same spot.

Are you talking about the debuff limit? When a monster exceeds a certain amount of debuffs, it cannot take anymore. It will literally give you a "no effect" message if you try to apply a debuff when it's already at the cap.
Hence why most Diadem PF groups say "NO SUMMONERS ALLOWED" because they contribute barely any DPS at all once that debuff cap is reached.

I know people here like to be contrarian for the hell of it, but 1.0 was shit. It was S H I T. NOTHING about it was good.
I will concede the graphics looked nicer but the game was badly optimized (the beta actually killed my first graphics card), the UI was SERVER-SIDE, the servers were laggy as fuck, levequests had the same 3 per 12 hours they have now but they were 80% of your leveling exp, which was also capped daily and if you went over it you would get massive diminishing returns, crafting was completely retarded and all over the place you needed level 15 materials for level 1 recipes in other classes (CUL literally did nothing), the crafting and gathering minigames lost their novelty very quickly, the crossclass system just repeated the mistakes of FF11 and everyone at endgame had the exact same OP build, the choreography in the cutscenes was pretty bad especially compared to 2.0 and the story was occasionally incomprehensible, dungeons had multiple paths but what that actually meant was you do the best one (ie the fastest) or you got shit loot, most of the endgame stuff was super-grindy and finally the Nael Van Darnus fight was boring as fuck, you spent more time running up stairs hitting meteors than fighting him.
Final Fantasy 14 was shit, Tanaka is shit and you are shit if you think it was good, deal with it.
