I knew all of this before I even knew what the game was and it was still a great experience. The plot beats aren't important, the way it was delivered was.
If you're going true pacifist, you need to never hit the fight button, except for on the King.
If you dont care about that, kill freely, but if you overdo it, grinding a region into nothing, you'll start the genocide path. short of that, go nuts, have fun, and remember to keep calling the phones. beyond that dont let anyone spoil you.
I definitely recommend doing pacifist mode, but don't backtrack for certain events. Just go through the game without killing anyone and then you'll get neutral ending and it will tell you how to get pacifist ending.
