That's because they were done by hand. Motion capture and automatic lip sync scripts have kind of ruined modern animations. If you're using a game with any kind of style (I.e. not COD) then a slightly exaggerated movement will always look better.
A lot of games now just use someone's face capture or an algorithm to automatically sync lip movement based on what's being said and that doesn't look as good in this type of game.

My character ended up learning celerity, so I had a gangrel that would shapeshift into a fucking bear with protean claws, and would move fast as fuck thanks to celerity, all while being able to tank hits like a motherfucker
