Warhammer Total war is probably going to be total shit. The fucking Medieval 2 cavalry charge bug being in the gameplay trailers is pretty goddamn embarrassing, on top of the fact that there's a DLC race and three expansions announced SIX MONTHS before the game even comes out. The only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope is the size of the world map and the fact it's not age of shitmar.

Best way into the lore is to just wiki surf on lexicanum if you want information, 1d4chan if you want humor, or that other 40k wiki if you want exhaustive detail. Once you have a basic idea of the setting pick up some of the more approachable books like Ciaphas Cain or Eisenhorn or if you want games then Dawn of War is a pretty good introduction to each faction. From there just continue with what you like and ignore what you don't.

It took a bit to get me into it, don't worry about not understanding enough at first. I took my time, I was first introduced to Dawn of War and then the Ultramarines movie. I played all the expansions of DoW, looked into an army I liked on Lexicanum and over time the general lore came to me while I learned about shit I liked. Also black library books (I went with audiobooks) helps and has some good stories.

Last Stand was literally a handful of the developers getting bored with DoW 2 and wanting to make something different. It wasn't even planned, they just did it in their own time for their own enjoymentThats how bad DoW 2 is, even the developers didnt want to be a part of it

It made the game more pay 2 win, destroyed the entire universe with a "Chaos kills everything the end". And then remade the world to be more like 40k by adding Space Marines and adds a fair amount of Warhammer Fantasy IN SPACE. They also made the notebook 4 pages long and essentially said, this is the last big Fantasy update.
