Have you ever beaten this game?
>>
>>316505948

Not with out using warps.
>>
>>316505948
I've never even played it.
>>
I've beaten it in less than 20 minutes. My girl used to sit and watch me do it. Good times.
>>
Why did Shigeru lie that Mario is not about to die in the box art?
>>
Grandpa here.

A: Yes. Repeatedly. It was new and I was 8 years old. I liked going to World 6 for the dark theme. I never did manage to get to World -1, though. The information was out there then as it is now, but I just never got it to work.
>>
>>316505948
yes, I make it a tradition every year to beat super mario bros 1-2-3 without using warps. fantastic games. especially 3, such a tight game.
>>
>>316506742

because it`s a hint to walljumping
>>
>>316505948
Why are the graphics like Minecraft?
>>
>>316505948
My wife has beaten that and Lost Levels at least 20 times, she's shit at other games though.

Personally I haven't gotten very far at all.
>>
Pretty sure I beat it when I was a kid, but it's been a really long time.
>>
>>316505948

never beat the last bowser, i still don't get that puzzle
>>
>>316508265
Honestly I always just book it and try to jump at the right time. It's a bitch, but possible.
>>
>>316505948
Yes I did

Fun fact: If you get over 20 1-UPs, the first digit of your number of lives turns into Peach's crown
>>
man is there any franchise starter more unplayable than the orignal mario?

in super mario 2 and 3 you have so much better aerial mobility and 3 has enough levels to last a day or two (and not to mention, the beautiful maps).

playing the original is a slog. at least play lost levels for a challenge.
>>
>>316505948
Of fucking course.
>>
>>316508951
I enjoy it :^)

It's not exactly that simple, but yes, it doesn't display double digit life count.
>>
>>316505948
Yes, the Deluxe edition on GBC. No warps.
>>
>>316508951
SMB1 can be finished in a five minute speed run.

SMB2 and 3 feel like unmitigated bloat in comparison. I'd rather have a few dozen well designed levels instead of a few dozen well designed levels padded with a few more dozen throwaway levels.
>>
>>316509756
I disagree. I think because 3 especially had its own gimmick for each world, it made sense to in why include as many levels as possible. The better levels stand-out, and it's more exciting when you get to them.

For example, 4-1 in Big World is basically a non-level. A few platform jumps. Nothing special but it introduces you to what's to come. To me Mario was never hard anyway; but 3 is definitely the hardest of the four major 2D ones, so having some snoozers in there for easy coins/power-ups/whatever is fine.

you go down the first pipe after crossing over lava

except for the first lava pit at the very start
>>

metroid
>>
No. I haven't beaten any Mario game. I'm still pretty good at them if I do say so myself, however.
>>
I've beaten it twice without warps and a bunch of times with warps
>>
I beat it without warps once a year.
>>
There are people who never beat this game without dev pipes?
>>
>>316505948
Yes
>>
Without warps and continues.

There's no excuse not to at least learn the warp routes for 1, 2, 3, LL, and World.
>>
No. I can't get past 8-3, too many fucking Hammer Bros.
>>
>>316513879
Theres a powerup at both of the 2x hammerbros on 2 rows of blocks sections, you just need to stay under them and wait for your chance. The ones after that can easily be killed with fire.
>>
>>316506068
This. I've beaten it with warps probably 100 times or so but without warps 0.

>that hammer bro that always hops over the turtle shell
>>
>>316506742
He has upward momentum so. It's just to make it look more exciting than it actually is.
>>
about a million times

Pro Mode: beat it when i was six fucking years old.
>>
>>316506068
It's easier WITHOUT warps since you know the best places to farm coins/1ups.

I beat it on the gbc remake

The screen crunch was real
>>
I never understood why you would want to warp anyway
the game is short as fuck, why would you intentionally skip content?
i always thought of the warps as ways to resume playing if you didnt finish it one sitting you could quickly warp to where you left off
>>
>>316515326
real what?
>>
Yes with a guide, because I didn't understand wtf I was supposed to do on the castle that just starts repeating itself. I mean, I knew what I had to do but not the order.
>>
>>316515301
I don't really agree, you can pick up the 1ups in 1-1 and 1-2, and none of the levels are even challenging until world 8. Then, you can keep getting the 1up in 8-2 if you suck and keep dying.
>>
SMB2 was better than SMB3.

That shit was my jam as a kid.
>>
>>316507101
Damn, she's impressive. I've only beat Lost Levels once and never touched that thing again because of how hard that shit was.
>>
>>316517351
Same. I never beat the original NES version without warps. Deluxe was the first time I played through all 8 worlds.
>>
>>316517261
thats an interesting argument I dont see often made
