I actually kind of hated Uther too. He was a dick.
>>
>>315618302
Speaks more about Arthas' arrogance. Uther was a respected legendary paladin but Arthas didn't care about anything except his own mission.
>>
>>315618513

Arthas was right in this situation though. If Uther hadn't been a retard and abandoned Arthas at this junction you could make a case for Arthas not seeking shadowmourne out of desperation.
>>
>>315618813

I meant to say frostmourne.
>>

>>
>>315618813
Yeah, it was not a black and white situation. Also what makes the scene so memorable and discussed even this day.

Killing innocents before they had been inevitably corrupted seems like a fine idea but it's not ethically right.

Pops was a fucking ancient turd by this point, Arthas was doing the right thing as the soon to be king. Everyone would soon be looking to him to make critical decisions in an immediate manner as he did at Strat, he knew wouldn't have the luxury of patience so he didn't bother pretending.

Except that they were corrupted already and it was only a matter of minutes before they'd turn into monstrous abominations that would turn upon their own neighbors, families and relief forces, granting Mal'Ganis an entire city's worth of undead that is ready to be used against the forces of Lordaeron. Being a champion of light is not easy because you have to do the right thing even if it is the unpleasant thing to do.

>Except that they were corrupted already and it was only a matter of minutes before they'd turn into monstrous abominations
True, I meant that with the corruption.

Still Uther didn't know about this and trying to explain the situation in a short time frame is not really feasible. I don't really blame Uther for not going along with Arthas.
>>
>>315621306
Hang on.
Undead are people raised from the dead, not living people turned undead. You have to be dead to become undead. There are exceptions, like Vampires, of course.

Even if I'm wrong, why would killing people stop them turning? Mal'Ganis could just raise the corpses anyway.
>>
>>315618368
Only kinda.
Jaina was a complete fuckwit.
>>
>>315624274
The plague kills people and then raises them as a combo.
Assumedly Arthas does whatever 'kills' undead properly, smashing their skulls or whatever, before they die and rise.
>>
>>315618368
He was incompetent but painted to seem like righteous and in right which makes the character worse when they fucking expect you to like such a faggot.
>>
>>315625502
Uther was being rational whereas Arthas acted on his emotions. In the end he was kinda right but his friends wouldn't trust him anymore.

Also Arthas was one of the biggest reasons why scourge took over the lands.
>>
>>315626058
Uther was acting on blind principle. Arthas was acting on logic.
>>
>>315626881
Again, Arthas knew what was going to happen and Uther did not. Maybe he could have persuaded Uther to help but instead he acted arrogant and dismissive of his old master.

Uther was an old man that was set in his ways and fighting an enemy that was outside the realm of his expertise.

Uther grew to become a paladin during the time of the Orc invasions. Fighting the Orcs was a shitty experience, but at least it was an "us vs them" experience. When an Orc killed someone they stayed dead. And apart from that one time with Alterac, Humans didn't generally betray other Humans.

Now along comes the Scourge, who have living Humans embedded as spies and saboteurs into the normal population, and who grow stronger with each death - it doesn't matter which side is doing the dying.

Paladins are completely unprepared to deal with the undead. In the games, their powers make them the best weapon against the undead, but in the lore their idealism makes them the worst defenders against the undead.

Teron Gorefiend and friends were not the same kind of undead as the Scourge though. They were more like traditional necromancers rather than a plague. While they did raise corpses here and there, they never engaged in widespread mass resurrection.
>>
>>315637152
He's not wrong but not right neither, same as you. I think it would be fair to add to what he said with: Paladins were prepared to fight undead (Skellingtons, warlocks, necrolytes and the like have existed since the First War before Paladins even existed, but were Clerics of Northshire) but since the paladins were clerics at all it means they doubled as spiritual leaders and shepherds.

In times of peace, paladins were for all intents and purposes your local parish priest/minister who did sermons and healed the sick but who happened to be able to smash skulls with a giant hammer and ride a horse into battle.

This status made them more than a bit reluctant to kill their fellow man for any reason, again it's like asking a priest to stab someone. It's against "their code" or moral judgments to even consider that, because there's got to be some other way.

So they're not incapable of doing it, they just find it abhorrent and counter-productive.
>>
>>315637424
Because it used to be a funny custom map to relax with others in the chat inbetween laddering and now it's this big thing.
>>
This entire board must be purged.
>>
>>315637152

Paladins in Warcraft fell into the trap of "winning every battle, but losing the war".

If the Paladins in Warcraft had any chance of defeating the Scourge, they would've had to follow Arthas example and enforce strict quarantine and cleansing procedures (killing/burning infected living people before they turn) across the entire kingdom.

Without controlling the growth of undead numbers the Paladins had already lost the war before it started.
