Its an extremely niche game in general. This should hardly be a shock.
It's a spinoff in the Mystery Dungeon style of game rather than the traditional dungeon crawling with turn-based combat that the other Etrian Odysseys have. Also, yeah, it's kind of a meh game with too many bugs.

The first was forcing story mode for the bonus content, and the second just fucked up all of the balancing for FOEs and bosses due to the Fafnir OC being way too OP. I really enjoyed Etrian Mystery Dungeon. it's the only Mystery Dungeon game I've played, but I feel like it Etrian Odyssey fits the Mystery Dungeon style well, since it's already a dungeon crawling series.
Untold 2 was a lot better than 1. The story was better, the characters were likable.
There's been no news on EOV since this time last year. All we have is the teaser, no date or even platform yet.

So what's so bad about the Untold games? Don't they still have the original story-less mode pretty much making them the definitive version? I'm legitimately curious because I never got to play the original EOII and was considering getting Untold 2 when it comes out in Europe.
Also how's Etrian Mystery Dungeon, the only experience with Mystery Dungeon games that I have is from playing a bit of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, and I enjoyed it from the little that I played of it.

Yes. From the start you can play Story or Classic. Completing story first unlocks 2 of the included classes for Classic mode.
Thankfully, in Untold 2, they added 8 save slots, so you can at least play either whenever you want without losing the save to the prior.

Untold 2 has fantastic gameplay as long as you're on expert. Classic mode is great too as you have 13 classes to pick from at the start of the game or 14 if you buy the highlander DLC that was free when the game first released.
