it is true. go ahead and try to talk with the person who has the online options. if you try to play with strangers you'll get the connecting sequence which will eventually timeout and inform you that you cant play online until the servers are up. but if you try to click play with friends then you immediately get a messaging saying this cannot be preformed in the demo.
