Usually, when a game that was previously exclusive to consoles is revealed to be receiving a PC port, it is widely celebrated among PC gamers. I've noticed that a degree of the excitement related to these ports is that there is a possibility that mods will be made for the game, which adds to the game's overall value.

A huge portion of the modding community is undoubtedly dedicated to adult mods with sexual material. Even a fairly tame game with no sexual themes or materials can be given nude or sexualized textures for it's characters. These mods are often some of the most downloaded and widely spread custom materials for games after graphical optimization and fanmade patches.

>My question is: If game developers know that sexual themes and nudity are going to be one of the first things that people look for in improving their private experience of a game, why do they still hesitate to venture into this realm for the sake of catering to their fanbase?

Games like Mass Effect and the Elder Scrolls series are heavily modded for this sort of material, and in the case of Bioware's series, they specifically built whole story-lines and quests so that you can have sexual relationships with characters, yet skirt around the actual nudity and scenes for the sake of "artistic credibility". The difference between a film's love scene and a game's, is that I can't download a modified version of the movie where all the actresses' shirts are off a week after it's released on DVD. But if I, as a consumer, am going to be enjoying a product in the privacy of my own home, and I want to be intimately invested in it, shouldn't the people designing that experience be aware and mature about it?

Am I crazy or is this something that should perhaps be acknowledged by the industry?

Including explicit sex means they would have to rate their games 18+/AO/Whatever the rating is in the respective region and many of the outlets that sell videogames have a policy of not stocking AO material. It would be economic suicide. The end.

That's alright, so long as I had someone to think this over with.

I don't think that kids participating in this type of media should hold it back as much as it has. Kids watch movies, too. There are whole companies dedicated to making kid's films. However, that doesn't stop people from filming, purchasing, hosting, and watching pornography.

It's obvious, from the types of materials that people download, that there are customers out there who want the interactive experience of a game that they can masturbate to. But how does the industry break down the apparent wall that's always been there. There are games with brief sexual moments or content in them. But when is a pornographic game developer going to make it big? Right now, the most successful games in this genre are Japanese dating sims and games of a sort've lower caliber.

So naturally that means people would be okay with them simulating sex in a videogame and basically watching pornography. Do you know how controversial porn itself is? Do you live under a rock?

Nah. If I wanna fap, there's always the internet.

This is actually the explanation I was looking for. I hadn't thought about that. Gamestop and Walmart really aren't equipped to deal with that sort of material.

This isn't even worth a discussion, and it's not even really worth making a joke about. The answer is No and if you can't see why then you're a fucking idiot.

Alright then. Sorry!

Everyone back to one of your ten flavor of the month topics!

>pandering to a handful of obsessed fuck and alienating your current customers
Sounds like a great idea op
>>
>Games embrace sex so there's only sex in games
>PC version comes out and there's nothing to mod.

You now remove my choice of whether I want blue balls teasing or actual straight up porn. Strangely now there is less content in the game.

I guess I'm trying to ask two seperate questions here;

>1. Why has no company made a successful pornographic game that is open about it's sexual content? Though, someone explained the Adults Only label would make it harder to sell at conventional venues.

>2. What would the game industry be like if Todd Howard acknowledged nude mods in interviews, or if a game like Skyrim had an official nude patch that you could download optionally? I remember in an interview between Todd and Notch from Mojang, Todd said that he envied how the Minecraft community released mods that were actually useful and interesting compared to a lot of the material he saw from Bethesda's fanbase. He had to actually skirt around the topic of sexual content, but it was right there, and we all knew what he was talking about.

You're being stupid by forgetting that rating systems exist and there are laws about distributing games intended for mature audiences to minors. A PG movie has a larger target audience than R.

Additionally, games with over sexual content are pretty much slapped with an AO rating in the states and that has a huge stigma attached to it for marketing and distribution purposes, not to mention that it woud be impossible to find in some stores.

tl;dr: putting pornographic content in games will not only narrow the target audience by a hge margin but it will also cut out most, if not nearly all of, the retail channels for buying the game.
