No, it's because piracy is morally wrong and hurts the industry as a whole.
People in 2015 finally became more aware of the rules governing the economy and got more sensitive to the injustice.

Dev here. Piracy is good, at least for our ego. And it's not like we could do something against it anyways, so we might as well embrace it. Don't believe the publishers, most of us are getting a hate boner when we see our product up on warez sites weeks before release. It makes us feel important.

what if pirating video games is my hobby?
>>
I pirated Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin because paying more than $30 for a video game is foolish.

I'll buy them both once they're on sale under $30 and replay them again. Then I will have the added advantage of easy access to them whenever I want to replay it, and it will give me a larger steam library.

>Grand Theft Auto V Steam Records
[Apr 16, 2015, 11:07 am ET] - 48 Comments
Grand Theft Auto V has set a new Steam record for peak concurrent users by a game not developed by Valve, reports GamesIndustry.biz. They say the game's peak yesterday of 300,452 concurrent Steam users broke a record held by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which had about 280K peak users upon release. This means today's total of 301,246 is also a new record, though it's hard to say what this represents, since not all users are playing the game through Steam. Thanks Polygon via nin.

There are only a few games these days that can keep me hooked for more than a couple of hours. I pirate them to see if they're worth my money or if they will hook me up enough to justify their price.

If I look at a game and I'm not sure if I'll like it, I probably wouldn't buy it anyway unless I could test it somehow.
If I end up liking the game then I actually end up buying it, so piracy actually helps me decide whether I'll buy a game, as if I couldn't pirate it, I'd probably ignore it completely.

I'm pro piracy. Because there's no demos.

It gives us customers more power to evaluate whether the people selling the games and the journalists who review the games are talking out of their ass or not.

I buy good games. I don't want to pay for, or play shit games.

If there's no demo, I feel fully justified in pirating to test them first.
>>
>>291166540
Did you rate it? The rating didnt show up still on my end, i refreshed the page and everything.

Try again.
>>
Video games are multi-media art projects. I don't pirate because the artists and creative minds in the industry who actually turn out good work deserve to be paid for that work, as any artist worth his salt in any industry deserves to be. I don't even buy the idea of "respectable piracy", IE pirating only bad companies or games, since the best message to send to companies that make shitty games or have shitty practices is to avoid their products entirely no matter what.
>>
I pirate when it's convenient. Like, if it's easier for me to buy a game, I will. If it's easier to pirate I will. If I want to play something and the torrent for it is going to take longer to download than it would to run to the store or download from an online retailer, then fuck it, I'll buy it. Otherwise if it's faster/easier whatever I'll pirate it.

Also I don't seed. I never understood the 'honor amongst thieves' mentality where everyone feels the need to seed for each other. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that said mentality exists so I can keep getting free stuff easily but I don't get it.

not really. I didn't word it like "are you supportive of piracy" but rather "are you all right with piracy".
It's more accurate that way, in the same way that some people are OK with gay marriage but are morally opposed to it.

I suppose I could have worded it "are you OK with piracy" too but there's not really any need for clarification since everybody knows that pirates pirate.
The other three answers are throwaway.

Piracy used to be hard, nowadays it takes a visit to google.com
Buying a game represents more in this environment, one because it means a person is successful enough to afford a hobby, and second that the title that person is buying is worth the time and effort the costumer put into obtaining the money to buy the game.

Or they would do an assessment of the game and find where they went wrong, as per a normal software lifecycle.
They would most likely realize the game's buggy as shit, the marketing was bad, the game wasn't interesting or the gameplay was boring. If millions bought GTA week one then there's clearly a large group of people willing to pay money, so why weren't they paying money for this game?
>Not to mention that you fucks are pirating medium and indie devs
Most of the time they're fairly priced and interesting so people pay for them. There's always going to be people that only pirate (until server based games like Diablo 3 become the norm).

They think this site is cool because it is so "evil". So it attracts a lot of edgy children. Not only that, some of these idiots go back to reddit with the latest meme to make themselves popular, one anon showed me once how some redditors claim memes, and force knowyourmeme entries to include them. Most of 4chan humor HAS been patented by a redditor at this point.

If that was not enough they are people actively making a profit on the latest 4chan fad. Making meme shirts, mobile games and such.

So there are a lot of vultures flying above us, figuratively.

No-one's opposed to the occasional piracy. It's those who do it all the time, for every little thing, and act all in your face about it. No-one wants to see that shit.
I've pirated Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee because that was the only way to get it working on my current PC. It just wouldn't work from the disc.

I would rather people use my copy of Worms: Armageddon than buy the Steam version because of the "censorship"

I would rather people bought the GoG version of BLOOD; I would rather people pirated the DOOM IWADs because those creators no longer work for ID, which people pay for them.

An example: I'm cursious about DBX, but I don't want to buy it. I'm not into trying every new title that comes out. I like the idea of an OC Dragon Ball game, but it looks like it has some irredemable qualities.

Piracy ain't so bad in small doses. It's the creeps who do it "just because"
>>
>>291169639
Not to mention pirates who get the game early can get information about a game well before the paying customer. And if they so choose to actually tell people what the game is about they can end up saving the PAYING CUSTOMER money if they decide the game's flaws are not worth the money.

These companies are not entitled to sales.

Supporting certain devs/publishers like ubisoft, activision, and EA are worse for the industry than pirating games.

How i see it, if youre a poorfag that cant get any games pirate the fuck out of them. Games are made for people to have fun with if you have fun go ahead. If you find shit you like and come into money pay for the ones you liked. If you have money just pirate things and then pay for them for the additional features like online they offer or just because you like them.

vidya unlike most things doesnt have a trial period or return policy. you cant teat out a game then decide if you want it. piracy lets you do that. especially now with half the devs lying and reviewers lying through their teeth for a quick buck at your expense.

Demos only overcomplicate things and are a waste of money. In the end I will go to youtube and watch some gameplay video of the game to decide.
