The 30 fps on consoles hurts the Sonic game, but I can't run it on PC. That said, the racing feels better in Sonic, it has more content as far as single player, and the item balance is much better. It legitimately feels like a skill based arcade racer more than a kart racer. Mario Kart is the more polished game though, has a more active community, and in my opinion has the better tracks.
I like both a lot, I unlocked AGES on both the 360 and Wii U version of Sonic, and I still to this day play Mario Kart 8 a lot.
...But if I could access the PC version of Sonic, i'd take that, even with it's shit Yogcast and Danica Patrick crap.

I still have the GC version, and while that track is my favorite track of all time, without the GC personalized items everywhere, it just wouldn't be the same.
