The last few recent updates have proven the single-player campaign to be fairly robust. About as much as you'd expect from this type of game, anyway, with the collectable-cosmetics being a main selling point.
It's no Final Fantasy, but it will attribute greatly towards a purchase.

The multiplayer is indeed the focus but it is also true that Nintendo always gives a lot of importance to the single player of its games.
I don't expect one hour but less than 7 hours for sure.
