There seems to be a really strange time discrepancy that was only recently pointed out to me since it had been so long since I touched FNaF1. I had always assumed the events of 2 took place in November thanks to the paycheck at the ending, which meant there was a huge time gap since at least one murder occurred during the game while the newspaper from 1 claimed murders had occurred on June 25th. However, Phone Guy greets you by addressing your job as a "summer job", which makes no fucking sense for a week we're led to believe occurred in November.

The Marionette does have a huge part in the story, but he's probably the only benevolent force in the game... just, not towards you. Puppet is the spirit of a child murdered at the Fazbear Diner. As the murders were occurring, he stuck the souls of the other children into animatronics in an effort to give them life/a chance at vengeance. He's also the main force in 3 who goes about scaring Purple Guy into Spring Bonnie and eventually freeing all the other children.
Whoever the Puppet child was, as far as we know nobody ever reported his deaths. He was likely picked up outside the diner while crying and murdered if we take the minigames literally.The only reason you have to keep the music box wound is because it soothes his fears/keeps him asleep.

Since we know at least once Purple Guy killed children as a pair, anywhere from 1-2 children could have died during Jeremy's week, with the other 3-4 being murdered the week before. If he was alone in the building at night for a week, he would have had plenty of time to tamper with the Toys so that they'd keep the next night guard distracted as he worked. I'm genuinely curious: is it decent? I've heard so many arguments for both sides I can't really make up my mind. On the one had it's an utterly unique idea, on the other it's as barebones as game can get. It can scare your dick off at times, but all the scares are nothing but jumpscares. It has a really neat creepypasta-esque story, but is the minimalist gameplay worth the effort? I mean, do you even have to play it to enjoy?

It's difficult because this defies the usual metric from which how we rate vidya games. A game full of jumpscares sounds horrible on paper, but it's incredibly effective.

I wasn't sold on it at first, all I saw was /v/ gushing over how supposedly good it was. Then I actually tried the first one after it came out, and it was actually pretty fucking good. Play it in the right atmosphere, and it can be one of the best legitimately scary horror games there is to play. A lot of the time /v/ just label it as a "Jumpscare Game", but it's quite the opposite. The gameplay may be pretty bare-bones, but that's mainly due to the fact that you need to rely on your brain to do half the work. You'll need to keep track of each individual animatronic, and learn their movement patterns in order to predict where and when they will be moving, all so you can conserve your power. You only ever get 'jumpscared' if you get caught by the animatronics, and if you do well, you won't be. But later on in the nights when they get harder to keep track of and predict, the tension and fear starts to rise, as it gets more difficult to stay alive.
Overall, while the second and third FNaF kinda lost their way and became more lore-driven, the first is still a pretty damn good thought-driven horror game with a good atmosphere to boot. Especially since it's only 8 fucking dollars.Though, remember... As for any good game that ends up becoming extremely popular with casual audiences, you should probably just stay away from the the fanbase in-general. It's just for the best.
