Wow used to be a 50/50 game. They could have gone one of two directions. All in with the dungeons, bgs, and instanced content. Or all in with the open world content.

Objectively, best MMO's are the games that pretty much started the genre. Granted there can only be one "first" game, but many of the early games tried different things that jumpstarted it. Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies are the 4 Horsemen. The beginning of the end.
Everquest definitely before Luclin, and even probably up through PoP.

I'm in a solo guild and ranked top 10 in most things on server. as long as you're social and find people to run with you'll be fine. Guilds are only required if you want a castle.

black desert combat is pretty fun
probably funnest combat i've done in an mmo

EvE isn't a traditional mmo honestly, arguably best in its genre but it is a far call from Ultima, WoW etc.

it's pretty themepark so far, running from area to area doing quests and killing things, though with the combat it's honestly pretty fun
there's also this crazy node system where you can unlock areas by doing quests for the owners and connecting it to a town and hiring workers to do errands/farm the area, you can actually see them in game/craft your own carriage and make the workers ride it and trade with other towns real time
trading is kind of like archeage with the open sea stuff and trade routes
also the environments are pretty amazing, like rain making things wet
i'm only level 27 so far and waiting for GFs characters to be deleted (takes 3 days to delete any character lel) so i'm not that far, no idea about dungeons but I heard they were easy
