I recently installed to play vanilla and the game is completely black. The only thing that isn't like that is the camp fire in the first village and the muzzle flash of my pistol.

Yeah, check out the stalker general on /vg/ There are starter packs that contain graphical enhancements. Stuff like shader improvements and general environmental/structure texture enhancements. There's also hat huge-ass photorealistic zone mod, which is just a complete graphical overhaul with none of the ass-tier changes that come with shit like Complete.
Your best source of info will be /vg/, though.
I got all three STALKER games during some Steam sale.
Installed SoC. Installed Complete 2009. Played for a total of 12 hours, got bored and kept getting bored after 10 minutes after starting it. Tried vanllia for a few hours, which was horrible, then tried with LURK. some deal as with Complete 2009.
Followed /v/'s advice and tried CoP instead. Same fucking deal as with SoC.
These STALKER games are shit, not hard or scary at all, and I played on fucking stalker difficulty.

I still find CoP the most enjoyable since you can get a usable weapon fairly quickly. I found CoP really fucking offputting since you're stuck with abysmal weapons until you find an AK-74 at the end of the Swamp, and the constant demands from your respective faction.

The problem with playing on anything but Master is that the game will make bullets from everything but sniper rifles disappear at random. They may strike, but they won't deal damage. On Novice, this is a 40% chance. The only thing this does is turn every enemy into a bullet sponge and make you waste a fuckton of ammo. You're tankier too, but if enemies get the drop that badly on you, you're probably dead anyway.
So Master. Play vanilla, aim for the head, learn to flank, use 9 to toggle between full-auto and semi-auto. Pistols are worthless after the Cordon.

THANK YOU, I've beaten CoP countless times, beat SoC, but never played or bought Clear Sky until a week or two ago due to the /v/ hate. I am having a blast.
I don't think any other Stalker games throws so many damn human bodies at you, it really feels like a war, as oppose to the more "adventure" feel of SoC and "survival" feel of CoP.
It's the first game to make me feel excited to come home from work in a couple years.
Only major complaint thus far is the laser precision entire squads of the AI are able to throw grenades. It's a pain.

Autumn Aurora. Built off of ZRP, which was mostly bugfixes. It changes all the vegetation to brown/orange autumn, integrates ENB, makes everything much more lethal, adds AtmosFear (previously only existed for CoP), better textures, general graphics improvements, lots of new models (pic related, Freedom exoskeleton), and adds a bunch of new guns, like the Saiga, Bison, and FN FAL.

that's what you get for playing the last russian mission on veterean you mongol...Ups wrong game, that's bound to happen, bandits have this mean of self defense, don't worry, until yantar you just waste stamina to run after the grenade fall next to you.
and yes, is a war, that's what the game is about "factions at war" while clear sky works on the background of the game in secret trying to kill strelok to save everyone, here's a tip, join loners, and don't join duty or freedom until you made it to the army warehouses.

Ok so, I played through SoC and thought it was alright. I tried playing through CoP but after a few hours I just can't continue.
Are there any actual good overhauls, tweaks, whatever that make CoP not play like ass? I'm not really concerned with graphical mods. I looked over the Stalker general list of links, but those google docs are such a clusterfuck it's not very helpful.

It wasn't an issue for me until I hit Garbage, which, now that I think of it, is pretty much all bandit.
I've already joined the "STALKERS" faction, are they separate then loners? Loners appear as yellow and stalkers in green, did I miss my chance?
I really enjoy that when a faction is well supplied, their squads start using some of the more interesting weapons, usually with mods. I was able to snag a fancy NATO gun that has been a huge help.
Those of you who, like me, have avoided CS, give it a try!
