I'll consider getting hype if someone answers some questions:

1. Is the remaster simply a fresh coat of paint?

2. Will there be multiplayer?

3. If yes to multiplayer, will the community be HUEG?

>>
>>284568543
>. Is the remaster simply a fresh coat of paint?
Essentially yes, but they've put a lot more work than usual remasters. Rehired the VAs to redo the lines, higher quality sound, higher fidelity models, textures etc etc. And redone cutscenes.
>2. Will there be multiplayer?
Yes.
>3. If yes to multiplayer, will the community be HUEG?
Probably not, to be honest. Homeworld was never a hugely selling franchise.
>>
>>284571202
Wasn't the remaster in top sellers on steam? It might have a pretty decently sized community.
>>
>>284568543

>1. Is the remaster simply a fresh coat of paint?

No, it's waaay bigger than that. They've converted the first game to work on the sequels engine, and have redone every mission and cutscene.
>>
I hope they let you preload it or this is going to be a fuck of a wait.
>>
>>284571286
I'm not really convinced the top sellers list isn't rigged anyway, but if it isn't I think most players are buying it for the campaign. The MP is difficult to get into when you don't know the gun coverage of capital ships and you get fucked by swarms of ion frigates used by pros who know how to utilize 3D movement
>>

might even buy if it turns out to be good
>>
>giving money to gearbox

Neo /v/ everyone.
>>
>>284571286
>>284571428

It will most likely get a bigger community now that it is available in a digital form.

>I'm not really convinced the top sellers list isn't rigged anyway

I don't see why or how the top sellers would be rigged. I doubt that the Banished dev is able to bribe Valve to put his game on the list. I mean, seriously.

How much would it suck if your crew quarters were on port side and your duty station was on starboard? Seems like a pretty shitty way to design a ship unless you micromanaged crew assignments to ensure no one would ever have to leave their assigned side.

i just got an email for my free copy from going to the gearbox community day event in 2013. strange thing is that gearbox seemed to have goofed and they sent me 4 of the same email with the first 2 including steam keys(i already just used the first one). so yeah, I don't really know what to do with second code for now.

I'm actually mad about the new voice acting. Maybe it could be better but IMO the voice acting/ship radio chatter was 10/10
>>
>>284579905

Not really.

Except maybe the rubber band difficulty which was in the original game - I dunno if that's in the Remaster as well.

Basically, if you do good on missions the game will ramp up the difficulty accordingly.
Some people have avocated scrapping most of your fleet (except for salvage ships and ion frigates, I think) at the end of each mission so the game will think you're underpowered and won't fuck you as hard as the game progresses.

It's an RTS game, multiplayer matches can be anywhere between zerg rush short and scud missile long.
>>

The beta is basically for making the HW1 and the HW2 factions balanced. Since the HW1 Kushan need to build like a research ship and can only build one ship at a time but their mother ship can build two different ships at the same time, like you can build a destroyer and still pump out frigates.

It's not about source files, it's about who made the games and had the rights to them. Cataclysm was the only Homeworld game that wasn't made by Relic, so when Gearbox bought Homeworld they didn't get the rights to release Cataclysm.
Same reason why a decent number of older games you can get on Steam or GOG also don't have expansions, because they weren't made by the same team as the original games (Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 come to mind first)

The best part of Homeworld imo is watching it play out. Give formation & attack orders, then use the great camera controls to watch the fight as you like, while quickly zooming out to get a better view of the battle & making more orders or manoeuver changes.

Eye candy to the max.

TB's impressions are out, and they are extremely positive. Judging from the footage, especially the option settings and the new U.I., I'm very happy. I'm gonna wait for a few more in-depth reviews, but so far it seems like they actually did a good job with it.

>>284568543
>1. Is the remaster simply a fresh coat of paint?
No, especially regarding the first game. There are extensive changes to the U.I., A.I. and control scheme: all as far as I can tell are improvements.

As for the new coat: well, it's basically redrawn all together. The graphics overhaul is not only extensive, but also tastefully done and seems to genuinely improve the game.

>2. Will there be multiplayer?
Already is, but it's in beta. They pretty much overhauled the multiplayer, allowing fractions from both first and second game to fight against each other, which is cool, but is going to be a bitch to balance.

>3. If yes to multiplayer, will the community be HUEG?
Multiplayer for Homeworld used to be very lively. But it's too soon to see if people will migrate to HW:R.

Additional good news is that there should be extensive mod support (larger and more active than for original Homeworld games, including even campaign-creation tools).
>>

Only shallow space looks somewhat promising but thats just my opinion. By that the ESRB means all forms of provocative content. Probably genocide in this particular case. Sexual themes/content are separate labels.

Well that is an understatement if I ever saw one.
That said, the other trailers did look decent. I suspect that this particular one was created in order to attract some of the young current day twitchy retard Gearbox fan base on top of the original Homeworld fans.
Which really does not insult me that much.

The one thing I'm worried about is the inevitable reviews of this game by the modern-generation journos who never played original Homeworld in the first place. Because those are going to hurt.

What
I always thought suggestive themes was like Sexual themes's baby brother or something. I don't ever recall games that involved genocide but had no women in them ever being called "suggestive".

afaik they used the word "suggestive" in reference to the sexual definition. They're not smart enough to think about ideas at esrb.

To be completely honest, it was original Homeworld review that first caused me a cultural shock and first disillusion about western gaming journalism.

I remember it quite vividly. I grew up in Czech republic and read a lot of game local game magazines. In retrospect, I can seriously say that the gaming press was really good here, but at the time it felt like it's just a standard - I had no frame of reference. I remember the Homeworld reviews in both largest mags at the time: both were overwhelmingly positive, detailing about the story, the charm, the challenge, the music, the love for classic sci-fi etc...
At the same time, my father traveled to UK for a business trip, and bought some games (which were much cheaper there), getting some complimentary PC game mags with them, and I got to read the UK PC gamer review of the game...

It was TERRIBLE. FILLED with shit about how the game is confusing, how they don't get the strategy of the game, and how the music was shit.
Entire segment of the review was dedicated how he hates Yes because it's a weird band. Not a single mention of things like the story, or art direction, or voice acting: all the remarks on gameplay were insanely shallow and pretty much talking about how he did not understand how to play it.

I remember being completely SHOCKED at how poorly written was the review. Nobody would write anything like that back in my country.

I always remember this when people are complaining about how bad gaming journalism is today, realizing that this is in no way a new thing.

By the way I think it was the same volume where they also blasted the fuck out of original X game.
>>
>>284589435

I dunno, how much do the Japs like Homeworld?

If there's gonna be anthropomorphised ships it's gonna come from the Nips, probably.
>>
>>284589416
Hard to say, they're very different games. If you like space, you'll probably like Homeworld.

If you liked the conquering & planet development aspect of sins, don't expect that in HW. If you liked the combat in sins, which is what I consider its failing point, you will go nuts with HW.

Pirate HW2. Download the widescreen fix. Download FX-Commander - pic related. Play through the campaign. If you like it and want to play HW1 buy the remaster as HW1 looks and feels shit compared to 2 and was in desperate need of an overhaul. The remaster is only good for multiplayer (and it's not a good competitive game, it's a casual RTS) and being able to enjoy HW1 without blurry textures, low-poly models and awful UI.
