It's amazing how the PC gaming scene went from praising the 970, to bashing it.

Nvidia lost a fuckload of customers, trust, and money off .5gb. Something so small and cheap.

I wonder how this even happened. I actually think it might be stupidity over malice.

Lying about specs shouldn'y be okay just because the leading brand does it.

Because people want what is advertised and pay for and when something falls short of what is advertised then that's being dishonest.

No ide about which community you're talking about.
But over in Europe, or at least germany, the shit was always bashed for false advertisement

Sadly the US press never gave much of a shit for some reason about it so the didn't reported as much about it

The lawsuit took long fucking enough tho.

>It's amazing how the PC gaming scene went from praising the 970, to bashing it.
It took a while for people to figure it out since only a few games require up to 4 GB's of memory.

I changed by 270x for a 670 a while ago with a friend, and god damn do i love this thing.

I don't think anyone started bashing the 970 except for AMD shills. It's still a good card and If I was going to upgrade I would get it. The performance didn't change and it outperforms any card AMD has.
>>
>>284431290
You'd be better off getting a 290 Vapor-X and OC'ing it.

Do you think they'll drop the price of the 970 in response? I'm perfectly happy replacing my 570 with a 970 even if it's only 3.5gb of memory provided the price is right.

In an ideal situation, Nvidia issues a recall for the 970s and people get fully functioning 4GB replacements.

But in reality, Nvidia will most likely settle out of court and just issue a free Ubisoft game or rebate offer to 970 owners.

If you provide proof of purchase you can probably get some of your money back, and keep the card. You'd have to seriously be touched in the head to even consider going AMD this gen.

On the boxes of plenty of 970s, they specify the specifications of the the GPU alongside with whatever other gimmicks they throw in there. On product review sites, they also include the specifications of the GPU as well.

Later, it was found out and confirmed by Nvidia that the specifications were "incorrect" like the ROP, SMM, and TDP count but the 4GB fiasco was a intentional hardware compromise that Nvidia played dumb about until it people started figuring out that the card doesn't perform exactly like a 4GB card.

Nvidia may have corrected the specs on their website and on multiple product review pages, but they still mislead their consumers about their product and the evidence is still on the hundreds of thousands of 970 retail boxes out there and on plenty of website archives on the internet.
>>
>>284436781

>AMD shills in here mad at Nvidia because they're cards are more expensive than AMD cards.

Of course they're going to be more expensive, Nvidia cards are more powerful and perform better than AMD cards. You don't see Intel selling their processors at lower prices than AMD processors. Intel has better processors so they can sell them at a higher price than AMD. People will pay more for quality and performance.

Shit, sucks about those Canadian prices. Anyway, you're still wrong about that "voids RMA" part, if you're still the guy I am replying to. It makes no sense.
>>
>>284437710
The problem with amds new cards with the stacked ram is that they are all limited to 4GB. The first version of their stacked design on chip means that the card no longer has memory chips on the side like all older cards, so the core has to cool both the gpu/new ram.

If they go higher than 4gb then they will be forced to use older GDDR5 ram as HBR in 1.0 form can't do more than 4gb.
The new HBR ram is at 650 gbps, DDR5 is 200 gbps. What kind of effect that will have if they do go that route will remain to be seen.

A huge step up for sure, the difference is massive.

When I played Metro Last Light with my 7850 I would average around 40fps on medium/high at 1080p.

After I upgraded to the 970 the average is closer to 50fps with physx and everything on high at 1080p.

Unless you're looking to get into 4k gaming currently or want to SLI your cards, then opt for the 970. Not shilling, just my personal experience.

My specs and you can see I'm bottlenecked by my CPU.

I did my research again when the news broke about the 3.5 issue. Over many users reviews on loads of different sites a lot of people still complain about dodgy amd drivers with quirks that haven't been fixed in a long time. I'm well aware nvidia has had some shitty drivers, but in my experience with them I haven't had any issues. Also I like them for the fact they release new game drivers almost straight away these days.

For gaming and the price you'd be better of getting an i5-k. The bulldozer AMD CPU's are kind of overkill and the performance difference in gaming is quite large when compared to Intel.
