To make a long story short, I'm going into hospice in about a week. I will be able to take my laptop and I was wondering what games someone NEEDs to play before passing on. Any info would be great!

Good news for OP.
>>
>>284134771
I've been meaning to finish that! Thanks for reminding me, buddy. And does it really matter? We all die, I'll just hopefully be pain free when I do.
>>284134798
I played the stalkers to death, I might have to give CoP/ShoC one more run tho. I think I'll do ratchet and clank for sure also.
>>284134892

If you're still here and want to talk let me know. If this is genuine I can't imagine you're taking it as well as you're presenting yourself.
>>
Planescape: Torment

Actually. No games are needed to play before you die. You should read some good shit instead.
>>
>>284136612
Oh fuck no. I'm scared as shit, just like anyone else would be. I've thought at lashing out at people, but why? I don't want to be a bigger piece of shit then what I am already. But this is a video game board, not a hospice board.

Have you played morrowind? I'm trying to gauge how long it would take to completely finish it.

>>284136953
Sadly, I've tried reading. I've lost some function with my thinking and I don't think I could do a full novel/book before I go. If you do have some short stories, I would love to hear about them!

And thanks for the suggestion, I'm looking into it. It's one of the "essential /v/" games, right?
.
>>284137153
Haha, good one. I can take a joke.
>>
>>284136958

You're right, it's not a hospice board.

Email me, I'd be glad to talk. I'm serious. It's no problem.

I personally haven't played Morrowind, so I can't speak to the length of that.

The best reading stuff that deals with death is existentialism, including its offshoots like absurdism etc.
A classic would be "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. Very popular, very deep, and not very hard to read.

Yume Nikki.

There's a reason it's plastered all over 4chan's banners. It's a genuinely unique experience created from the heart. It's also not very demanding. It's very trance-like and serene, even in the creepier bits of the game. It's also an RPGMaker game, so your laptop should handle it with zero trouble.

Look up the Bike Effect if you want to maximize your time.

Play Metal Gear Revengence, no you don't need to play the ones in the series previously.

Also having meet people that have been in near death and people who have been in medical emergencies (including myself), death isn't really all that bad. Its scary to think about but I'm surprised how many people who have NDEs want to stay where they where, be it mind altering chemicals or just a sense of calm it feels pretty good. I don't know what shape you are in, but maybe try getting some LSD or mushrooms and tripping out.

On the Nintendo side, Ocarina and Majoras Mask if you haven't played them as well as Mario 3D World. Play it with your friends who visit you at the Hospice.

Bastion and Transistor also must-play, Mother 3 and Knights of the Old Republic 2 (with restored content mod) are two classics of great writing.

Praying for you, hope God touches your life intended in most well-meaning sense possible

Well OP, It was a fun ride while it lasted.

you've made some good memories during your time here with all of us,and soon, know that even though we might be cynical, rude and downright nasty at times, we feel for our fellow gamers and will miss having you in our ranks, but I guess your turn to drop the controller soon is inevitable.

This thread will be archived, so make it a good one, because everynow and then, we have threads to remember the anons that have left us.

I recommend Castlevania simphony of the night, one of my favorite games of all time

also
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Trigger

>>
>>284142815
The Walking Dead feels more like a point and click in my opinion, but it definitely has a VN feel to it.
>>
>>284142815
Yeah, TWD is VN-ish. The first season has a handful of more traditional adventure gameplay segments, but it's geared more overall towards presenting a narrative. It does a very good job at that, too. I'd recommend checking out the first season. Skip the second; they lost the two writers who made the first one so great.
"I'll miss you."
>>
>>284142815
The Walking Dead is fantastic, it's not exactly a VN, It's a bit more of a point and click and has some game mechanics in it. The second season is a bit weaker but is still really good.

If you enjoy that then you will enjoy The Wolf Among Us too.
>>
>>284142059
well I played max payne 3 recently and it was pretty fun

other than that Gunpoint was pretty good, really short indie game but with player made maps and all that. Hotline Miami was pretty challenging but easy to get into, if you like star wars Battlefront 2 is still one of my favorite games but then again if you like star wars you probably already played it.

Advanced Warfare is pretty great to be honest, I think there's a free weekend going on right now on steam so you should check it out

If you're into city builders, I'd highly recommend Banished. It's practically the epitome of "comfy." Watching your humble little settlement grow into a bustling town as your people grow up and live their lives is lovely. It's not the most expansive game, but it does what it set out to do quite well.

Katamari Damacy
Fear
Condemned
Morrowind
Fallout 1
Fallout nv
Metal gear solid GZ

For novellas (really short novels) heres some must reads. You can finish these in one or two readings.

The old man and the sea by Ernest Hemingway. Very relevant to you.

Anthem by Ayn rand

Notes from the underground by fydor dostoyevsky

Banana fish (may not be the title, but its close enough for google)

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse (very very very good)

The first and last i listed are all you need. They will give you great closure.

me too, man... this girl i was close to at the time was going through fucking hell and i wanted to do was help her out of it. Needless to say thirteen made me cry like a bitch

I'll miss you, brother.

The Drakengard series, if not Nier, are must plays. They get batshit crazy/sad. Good if you're a weeb.

The Wonderful 101 makes for some truly wonderful experiences, even if you just play it on easy mode.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is so comfy it's unbelievable.

FTL is a challenging game you might enjoy.

The Professor Layton games are good.

Kirby's Air Ride is excellent if you can run Dolphin.

Illusion of Gaia is an excellent game, it is a spiritual sequel (sort of) to Soulblazer and ActRaiser, both of which are also excellent action RPGs on the SNES.

I only wish that you have more time with us to play vidya and that your passing is easy. May you have plenty of games in your backlog to keep you busy.

Idk how i forgot, but i did.

Animal farm by George Orwell
Of mice and men by John Steinbeck
Look homeward angel by thomas wolfe (not tom wolf the pretentious new age faggot who is terrible). Its 400 pages but quite possibly the best book ever written.
Yes, even better than war and peace, and the brothers Karamazov. Grapes of wrath is imo the best book ever written, but look homeward angel gives it a run for its money.
One flew over the cuckoos nest by ken kesey
Great expectations by charles dickens (quite possibly the greatest author to ever live)

And many others. I can give more recommendations if you tell me what you like. No sci-fi though, thats not real literature

Op, if you want some recommendations from an English major fagot whose life is going nowhere:

Stranger in a Strange Land
Childhood's End
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
The Amok Journal (if you can get a copy)
Catch 22
Slaughterhouse 5.
And if I were you, I'd write. Write down what you're thinking, feeling, wanting. Don't spare any details. >Best American Novel
I've read a lot of "Best American Novels" friendo. And there are many that I haven't read. Besides, it's just another coming of age story about some kid in the boondocks of america. There's a million of those. If you're gonna read a story about that sort of shit, why not read something real? "You Can't Win" is pretty good.
>Garbage
Stranger was a reevaluation of the social mores of the time and a deconstruction of morality, religion and the fear of death. It was a pretty fucking revolutionary work of fiction and is considered to be one of the major influences of the 70's and the hippy movement. It's a pretty fucking important book you uncultured swine.

Moon was pretty damn influential as well, though for other reasons.

And if you're gonna insult Mother Fucking Vonnegut I'm gonna have to tell you to fuck right off. Even in the high brow Ivory tower that guy is considered great.

Plus all these books have elements of death, dealing with loss and accepting the reality of life, so they're pretty fucking relevant.

Not saying it does or does not but it is literally impossible to say for sure that it doesn't. I don't believe in God or reincarnation for that matter, but to speak in such absolute as to say that you know something does not exist is to say that you can prove its nonexistence. As I'm certain you can not, you may say that with our best known evidence, reincarnation is highly unlikely and you don't believe in it. Regardless, its a nice story that may give someone else a bit of comfort so don't be a faggit

>Look Homeward, Angel is an elaborate and moving coming-of-age story about Eugene Gant, a restless and energetic character whose passion to experience life takes him from his small, rural hometown in North Carolina to Harvard University and the city of Boston. The novel's pattern is artfully simple -- a small town, a large family, high school and college -- yet the characters are monumental in their graphic individuality and personality.

Straight from the back of the book, friendo. I told you I haven't read it.

Vonnegut used scifi to do social commentary. Or did that go over your head?

>Moby Dick
Ok
>Tale of two cities
Fine
>Othello
We gonna get off the high school reading list any time soon?
>Ape and Essence
Thats sci-fi too you idiot.
>Infinite jest
