+Really great facial animation motion capture, works great for this type of game
+Extensive lineup of actors, some great acting, some just okay. Good casting
+Excellent job of creating immersion in the setting through speech, music, brand design, furniture, cars, clothes, weapons, clothing etc all being accurate for the time period
+Story that gets better as it goes along

~As per all rockstar games, everyone in the game world is an A-hole, including the main character. Most things people say to you will be negative
~gunplay mechanics certainly werent the focus of gameplay here

-Its clear they didnt bother to do many changes to take advantage of the PC platform
-Low polygon models and low resolution textures here and there, some are adequate
-Awkward control scheme for navigating the notebook/clue system
-The game will allow you to choose where to go first to investigate things, but if you dont go to the correct location first and get all the clues, it might throw you into an action sequence that ultimately ends the case prematurely, resulting in a poor performance rating, which in turn causes you go redo the case. This makes the game a trial and error nightmare at times unless you use a guide. The default button to open your notebook is Tab, so when you alt-tab to second monitor to see where you should go next it opens the notebook, sometimes ending your current interrogation. Of course, you could just NOT use a guide and then sometimes end up missing clues or entire sections of the mission and accept your poor performance. But if you do use a guide this completely destroys the immersion of the game.

>>284005085
-Game dips down below the locked 30FPS even on hardware 3-4 years newer than the game
-Combination of the last two makes the game a chore to play
-The whole world knows every intimate detail of your life and constantly mentions it loudly to no one in particular "Thats the guy who yadda yadda"
-Black and white option only looks good at certain times, otherwise the low quality textures on most people's faces make it a much worse choice, considering the game is very colorful and pretty without it
-If you bother driving yourself to the next location in cases, the game will detract for hitting anything at all in your car, which is realistic, but turning your siren on doesnt make people get out of the way, in fact they'll drive and walk right out in front of you
-Case breaking bug related to the above (ai will drive out in front of someone you're tailing and the AI never recovers, forcing you to shut down the game from task manager or start over the case entirely)
-there is never a time when you arent on a case, theres no free roam mode. so if you go after a street crime that gets radioed to all police, it sometimes will be clear on the other side of LA, in a car that can only go 80mph at the most (downhill) and that seems more like 40mph. on the drive there, dont hit anything cause itll detract from your case score!
-If you dont click in exactly the right spot on a piece of paper on clue #27 and try to move on with the game the case will stop functioning until you backtrack to the previous location and look for which one you failed to click just right
-they give you a flamethrower in the last 2 minutes of the game, which needs to be used point blank against people and then immediately throw you into a slow walking area with people at range

A bit of both. There are a few good-to-great games still made today, but they're released in such a sea of shit, it's hard to spot the gems.

You're probably also getting too jaded and tired for your own good as a side effect of too much time exposed to /v/ funposting. /v/ will always, ALWAYS find a flaw, sometimes a minute detail that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, in every game released and go "well, it's shit then" as an excuse to not buy/pirate it and a justification to spend more time doing nothing but whine here.

The thing to do is, don't be stingy, actually play video games, you're bond to find one you like, despite its flaws (nothing is perfect) one day.

Or take a break from video games and /v/, invest yourself in a new hobby for a while, develop a new skill or follow a new media, and come back to video games with a bit more detachment.

This has pretty much been me for the last couple entries of my backlog. Let me preface this by saying that I missed out on several years of gaming by being addicted to MMO's, or just generally not playing new shit. My most recent games completed and a run down of each:

>Morrowind
Why the fuck I waited this long to actually play it when I loved Oblivion and kinda liked Skyrim I will never fucking know. I can never go back now, this shit is TES like I always wanted it.

>Shovel Knight
This shit right here made me feel something I forgot video games could make me feel. Shit was fun, the music was awesome, the references and inspiration was top notch, etc. I actually felt happy while I played this game.

>Bastion
The gameplay was easy, but satisfying, the art style was ok, the music was decent with a few awesome stand out tracks, and like most people say, the best part really was the narration. Weak endings though, I feel.

>999
I just spent nearly a day straight getting all the endings to this game. I was hooked on the premise and I spent a good 12 hours doing the bad endings alone, and another 5 on the true ending; a game hasn't pulled me in like that in ages. I enjoyed the characters, puzzles and setting, as well as the plot, although the ending is still a little confusing and somewhat disappointing to me in a way I can't describe.

It's nice to be reminded that fun games are still out there for me if I just put in some fucking effort for once. Next up is either Nier or VLR, haven't decided yet.
